I've got CD and DVD drive..... My computer is only two months old, however since yesterday (when i tried to load Return of the Jedi), no dvds are recognized and the Pc makes an unhealthy sound when i try to load them..... I can still play cds in my cd drive, but not the DVD drive....... Anyone any ideas as to what could be wrong?

Knackered dvd drive i would say.If you go into my computer can you see the dvd in there? If so left click once, right click and go explore. If dvd isnt reading then its faulty.

    Regds kieran.

Did you try a cd cleaner on it in case#?

I have a similar problem, but some DVDs work and some don't. Some that don't work for me on the PC (but do work in a real DVD player) are Spaced and Straw Dogs. Weird... I've heard updating the firmware on the drive might help, but I haven't investigated it yet.

If your allowed to open computer by the warranty then:

Exchange the ide from the cd rom to dvd inside case.
    If no detection faulty drive.
    if d etection faulty cable

    regds kieran

ie unplug white cable from cd rom and put into dvd.
Is the door of dvd opening at the moment? Are you getting power to it?

    Cheers for the ideas Kieran
The door opens eventually after a couple attempts... I aint too confident with opening the pc yet, so I might avail of the 1 year collect and return warranty..... hopefully it wont take the full year for them to return it :D

Did you try another dvd like a film?
Best thing is activate your warranty,do not open you may invalidate the warranty.

    Best of luck, regds kieran
