The "+" and "-" are different formats.
Theres more than one choice when it comes to software, but i use dvd decrypter - which is freeware.
No idea on the blank media - although if i remember correctly, there have been a couple of threads with regard to this ..posted previously.

Most people I would imagine buy their Blank DVDs across the Net but you can pick them up in most computer shops. I use PC World personally or Dixons to get mine. They're probably a bit dearer there but it suits me. Depending on what DVD player you are intending to play your copies, some players don't like some formats i.e. "+" and "-" (standalone DVD players I mean, not your PC DVDRW drive as it should have no problem with all). I have used "-" format to great effect on my player for DVD-R's 4.7GB but it has also with a gentle nudge played DVD+R 8.5GB (8.5GB is needed for most movies as the files you need to rip are usually larger than to fit on a 4.7GB disk), mind you in saying that, the player I have is the Philips DVP 630 which after reading this thread (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=177861) I bought and it has played anything and everything that peeps have thrown at it. I had two other Players but they struggled with the different formats and wouldn't play some of my backup DVDs. Good luck with it. Hope this helps.

Oh yeah... Eurorunner is right as I also use DVD Decrypter to copy my backups and it works just fine. Great bit of software!

I use Marx Computers - DVD media starts at €1 a disc... Never had a problem with them... They're in Dublin, but you can order online.

I use www.blankdiscshop.co.uk. They start at about 50cent a disc, and their best ones are less than EUR1 a disc. You can pick up great quality 8x DVD+R for about EUR14 per 25. (code: DV 3114.). 25 DVD cases cost ya an extra 3 euro (ish). Even with shipping its good value if you order them in lots of 50 or more. I recieved mine within 3 days.

    voakesy, dvd-r is best

    check doom9.net site for software

and yes svp are so cheap bcos they sell really crappy quality Ritek Z-Grade dvds from the 1990's :p

-r are generally used for data storage.

Most of the core manufacturers recommend +R in their DVDR's

-r are cheaper so thats why most people like using them
+R won't play on sony dvd players or Xboxs ,

+RW discs play in most players.

    Philips + Sony -

The ones i linked are good very good quality ones. If you're unsure about the quality of a DVD disc, just google for the media code (e.g. Prodisc F01). Then look for some Kprobe tests done on the disc.

You can get DVD's cheaper than 14eur per 25, but you won't get very good quality 8x ones at that price (at least, not when i checked about 5 weeks ago).

"+R won't play on sony dvd players or Xboxs "

    This is not true Titan_Soul!

I have a sony Dav550 and it plays all copied formats, also any of the other lads i know that have sony dvd players play most types.

    ie DVD -r , DVD +r, DVD +rw

And it hasnt beent modded in anyway.

On the blank media front....Komplett are selling "thats write" media at the moment which i find very good - 150 used so far no coasters.

its only 9.20 for a pack of 25 (dvd +r)

I've downloaded DVD Decrypter and ripped a couple of dvds onto my hard drive. I now want to put them onto blank dvds.

how do you burn complete, ripped, dual layer dvds onto blank, single layer dvds?
