Preinstalled Software Question

    Hello,

I wasn't really sure if this should go in the Business section or here . . . here seems like the right place but, if not, apologies in advance . . .

Anyway, I was wondering about something:

You know how most new computers come with a variety of pre-installed software - theres the usual stuff like Word, etc.

There's also some sign-up stuff for various ISPs, most of which you probably never heard of (usually British or American, even on an Irish made PC!).

Does anyone know how these companies, some of which are quite obscure, go about getting themselves put onto computers by manufacturers?

What's in it for the manufacturer - do they get some kind of a commission for any new customer that signs up, or what?

I even remember one of the first computers I ever bought had a bloody recipe book installed on it, before anyone knew what an e-book was!

Anyone in the know about this?

    Regards,
    Tommy.

Its all about the money tbh, nothing more nothing less. Its basically like any advertising, you pay to have your product seen somewhere. You buy your PC, see your fancy recipe book and tell your friends about it. Or at least thats the idea...... Fairy cake? :D
