iTunes Volume?

    Hey,

I've got a G4 powerbook and attached powered HiFi, I've noticed that the volume seems to go up and down when listening to music? I've turned off all the "fancy" iTunes volumes settings but it still happens?

    Anyone seen that before?

What volume goes up and down? The iTunes as opposed to the Mac volume? Are you sure it is the volume bar as opposed to the actual songs - maybe the songs are at different levels?

If it is just the iTunes volume then the only thing I can think of that would adjust the volume is Audio Hijack (I think) - do you have Audio Hijack? Or any other audio programs?

    Hey,

It's the volume of the song, they have all been encoded from my CD by iTunes and I am playing the same album when it happens. It actually happens during a song not between songs.

Don't have it? What's it do?

Oh that's wierd then. Are any other programs running at the time?

Audio Hijack is a program that lets you obtain audio from any program (OSX). For example DVD player. Quite handy.

Do you mean the volume is muting on and off or just getting lower and higher?

I don't know what iTerm is but have you experienced this while no other programs are running?

    Can you recreate it?

Higher and low during a song, hard to explain how much be you can definitely notice it.

Is it a gradual rise and fall over a period of time or sudden dips in level ? Have you checked that "Sound Check" is off in the preferences with sound enhancer ? Does jiggling the lead from the PB to the amp recreate the problem ? Is it possible it's anly one channel thats cutting out ?

I've turned of sounds check and the eq. Messing with the lead doesn't help, really bloody annoying.

    I'll try another stereo..

    Thanks all.

Does the volume change happen with headphones plugged directly into the Powerbook ? May be worth trying this before another amplifier to try to figure the source of the problem. It could be a dodgy source selector switch on the amplifier causing the fluctuations so it's better to figure out where the problem lies first before offering suggestions on how to overcome it.

Found it! There was some strange wiring on the plug, I noticed the little surge protection light was dimming and brightening with the sound (had the lights off ;).

I removed the dodgy extenstion boards and bought a new one!

    iTunes in full glory.

    Thanks all.
