Firefox Extension Backup?

I wanna burn a CD with all my 'essential' software, a few desktops and so on so if the computer goes kaput I've a quick CD to get things back up (I have other backups but this will be the main CD I reach for).

How exactly do you save Firefox Extensions? Where do you even put the files after that? I'm guessing you have to install each via Firefox but I'm just interested to see if it's possible. Otherwise I'll just make a list in notepad.

    Thanks in advance.

Just backup your entire Firefox profile, this includes your extensions, bookmarks, settings, history etc..

By default it is located in:

    E:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

Then if you ever have to recover you can reinstall Firefox and then copy your profile from backup.

To select which profile to use, and set the default, launch Firefox with the -p argument i.e.

    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\Firefox.exe -p

    Thanks for that.

    Question:
Just burn the profile folder and simply drag it back into the Application Data\Firefox DIR to make the re-installed firefox work as if normal? That easy?!

Actually, if that's possible I'm getting greedy - how would one backup plugins too?
Copy the whole Application Data\FF folder (including the pluginreg.dat file) and also the plugin folder in Program Files? Too much?! :D

heh, what could go wrong? Just save the the .xml files, and when you want to reinstall then drag and drop into the 'fox. Easy as poop.

The re-installed firefox will have created a default profile, so you must launch it with the -p argument. This will present you with a simple dialog where you can select which profile to use, and this will then become the default so you will not have to use the -p argument next time you run firefox.

I think all you would need is the plugins folder in the firefox install directory.

Personally I don't see any point in this, the plugins are small so wouldn't it be easier to just keep a list of links to where they can be downloaded and just get them that way, at least then you would have the most up-to date versions of the plugins.
