Hi i have just recently downloaded a MAME emulator and the old arcade game 'Gangwars'. Im fairly new to all this ROM playing and for the life of me i cannot seem to get the bloddy game to work.

i have tried putting the gangwars.zip in the ROM folder (still zipped) and on the command line at run i have:

    C:\mame069b\mame.exe

All that happens is a little black screen comes up for a second and goes away again. Can anobody give me the correct instructions to play the game.
    Cheers!

hmmmm... did you try adding a /? to the end of that line?
Don't put that line in the Start>>Run box by the way... open cmd first, which opens a command window... which should let you see what MAME says before dissapearing and thus what its problem is.
Generally this will give you the command line switches and arguments you need.
Haven't used the command line version myself (once maybe, years ago) but you most likely need to supply the name of the game in the command line.
Or just do what I do and use MAME32, which includes a nice front-end GUI.

your only running the emu, not the game.
    Try...
    C:\mame069b\mame.exe gangwars

    Great Odin's raven!
Get ye MAME32 from www.mame.net as SantoHoe suggests. Why would you torture yourself using the command line unless your trying to run it on a 486DX or something;)

ok ive got MAME32 on my computer but i still cant get it to work. Here is what i am doing:

Loading up MAME32 and clicking on the 'All Games' tab. Then i find 'Gangwars' but when i try to load it all i get is the MAME32 program searching for the gangwars files and then saying it cannot find them.

I have already downloaded gangwars.zip and have extracted it to the ROMS folder in MAME32.

Can anybody tell me what im doing wrong, thanks!

Leave the .zip in the roms folder, then audit all games. (under file menu iirc.)
Then select available games and it should be there.
