Thomann are a shower...

I've just been reading a link on a thread there, posted by Doctor J...

not being one for seeking retribution I decided not to have a rant about them but i didn't think anyone was recommending Thomann here on Boards.

Thomann are a shower of liars.

I bought a pair of really nice Alesis active monitors from them in may 2003 and once they arrived, the tweater was crushed in. Much to their amazement. I asked them should I send both back or just the broken one (c.€65 - refundable). When the replacement speaker arrived it was the wrong one, these speakers are supposed to form a mirror image of each other, symetrical an stuff... anyway now I had 2 right hand speakers (nobody checked which one I needed). I let them now about the problem and forked out anothe €65 for the delivery for the superflouus speaker, since they won't refund untill all transactions are completed. Being a student this was far from Ideal for me at the time. I remained patient until august that year when they sent me back the same f-ing speaker back to me! I quoted their serial number an everything but they just began blanking me "oh! Ivan is out to lunch right now [4pm, 4.30pm, 5pm german time]" basically sending a very strong signal that it was now my responsability to sort out the problem my self they wanted nothing to so with me so I got on to consumer affairs and gave all my info and essentially left to this great person there.

Thoman immediately began mailing me when she started making enquieries, admissions and apologies flying everywhere. When I responded that I no longer wanted any dealings with them and that I was advised by the conusmer affairs to cease all contact an leave it to them. Consumer affairs found that they had a bit of a battle on their hands. Refusals to take calls from "legal advisers" etc. after already taking a load of calls from her before that. Basically a load of BS instead of any suggestions for reasonable solutions...

I had offered to sent back the speaker and accept their offer of a refund if they would pick it up. In fairness I'd already forked out 130 squid for deliveries because of their 2 c*ck-ups.

Anyway, i eventually got a refund, after "heated exchanges" on my behalf over more than 5 months of wrangling with them.

Thanks to consumer affairs, they are flippin' great. Balls to Thomann and recommending them to anyone...

They do seem to have gotten decidedly flaky in the last couple of years. When I first ordered from them the customer service was immaculate. These days, there's always something wrong, and they've gotten very crap at answering emails to sort it out. Maybe they're understaffed - I imagine business has been steadily rising in the last few years, especially from places like Ireland. It's no excuse though.

you sure its a second right hand monitor? not all monitor sets are L and R , just the same speaker twice

They are a mirror image pair (if you'd read above ;) )

Alesis active monitors... not usually bought by those who can't tell the difference between the right and wrong replacement... I got my refund because I was right, yeah. Not because I hadn't a clue what I was buying.

was only trying to share my experience because I don't want anyone else to go through the sh*t I had to.

P.S. they are really brilliant & transparent (+ loud!) monitors, would recommend them to anyone...
