laptop had a virus so i formatted it now every so often i get a sygate pop up saying navp has been blocked from blah blah, reading up i know it appears to be something left over from norton or an actual virus, Adaware doesnt pick it up...spybot doesnt pick it up i could do to get a free virus program...avg is free i believe?

oh god dammit navp.exe has been blocked once again!...i deleted it in the registry start up run services..thingy and ive got rid of 2 of em the only 1 left is the 1 in the system 32 folder but when i try to delete it it says access denied...the bugger wont go

other problem, this im getting on my main comp my server and a mates comp whos been asking me for help, its some sort of spyware i think i get many variations of it (picture below) which links me to various urls which i refuse to click as it changes everytime so its definetly not right, again this 1 doesnt pick up in adaware or spybot :(

    any suggestions?

Thats a flaw in messenger , man havent seen that in years.

    Service packs should fix it.

Start --> Programs --> Administrative Tools ( you may have to enable this * ) --> Services. Then in services go to messenger service and double-click on it and set it to disabled, restart to take effect.

*Right-click on Taskbar and click Properties then Advanced in Start Menu Settings click on Display Administrative Tools.

Actually, it looks like a popup from the 'messenger' service, a different thing from MSN or Windows Messenger. Run 'services.msc' and disable the 'Messenger' service. It has pretty much no legitimate use anymore.

No, MSN Messenger and Messenger Service are two totally different things I presume you meant Messenger Service? I concur on the updates point - this flaw has been patched a long time ago IIRC so get your friend to update ViperVenoM, are you up to date?

if you boot up in Safe Mode (be quick with hittin F8 when os starts to boot up) you can easily delete those files. (was uninstalling Oracle like that the other day :)

I would also recommend searching the registry for a part of that file name - see if anything pops up.

yeah, takes ages to boot it up though :-) but a useful little thingy nevertheless.

Messenger service is a very simple thing actually. It's a way to send short messages on windows based networks. Go to command line and type:
    c:\>net send {computer_name} Hello world!
"Hello world!" will popup on that target computer (that is if the aforementioned service is still running, personally I turn this off (and a couple of others, before I install drivers on that installation :). That service is listening on some port on your computer, that when you're connected to the net is open to outside world. So somebody is just sending certain messages across all the ip range of your provider's network, and that's why you keep getting it every time you're online. Nothing to worry about. As said - just turn off Messenger Service (actually set the startup parameters to "Manual" not "Auto" that way it won't start when you reboot).
