Additional Cable TV outlets

    Hi,
I'd like to bring a cable TV feed into my attic conversion. Currently the NTL cable passes along the front of the house and there's a junction box from which a feed is taken down the wall of the house and into a ground floor room.

How should I splice into the existing cable? Do I need some kind of filter (passive / active?).

    Thanks

Thanks for taking the time to point that out Tony. Now, do you have an answer to my question?

I'd also like to get an answer to this if anyone has any way of doing it.

It is not illegal if you are already paying for a connection and you splice this connection. It is however illegal if you splice their main line.
Best advice is to use a "Y" connector at the point of entry to the house and bring a cable from here up to your attic.

Does that mean that you can watch different channels on the tv's at the same time - or would have have to watch whatever is on the downstairs tv?

Garda Tony, nice of you to assume that I'm not already paying for the service. I thought that would have been clear from the subject of my post. I should have known that I'd have to cater for the lowest common denominator. Maybe this will help you:

    - I'm paying for NTL
    - I want to add an extra cable TV point in the attic.
    - Currently the NTL cable passes along the front of the house and there's a junction box from which a feed is taken down the wall of the house and into a ground floor room.
    - I'd prefer not to have to put a Y-connector in the sitting room
downstairs and then have to run the cable up two floors.
    - I'd like to know the best way to splice *my paid for* feed so that I can put a cable TV outlet in the attic.

Its still illegal , NTl charhe extra for second points. You are not allowed (by law) to interfere with their network in any way before the isolation box, you also run the risk of electric shock (albeit low voltage)

An acid test of this would be to ring NTl and see what they think of your proposal

I made no assumptions about you not paying for the service, I am not a garda just someone who knows a hell of a lot more than you about TV points as I do it for a living.

Rubbish it is still illegal, but if you still decide to this use a two way F type splitter as they are much lower loss than Y spliiters
