    HI,

just got a call about a prog with a pc - maybe someone can shed some light...

the hard drive went bad and he swapped over an old one(working) froma spare machine.

SInce swapping, the system 'sound' like it's booting up fine, but the monitor doesn't come on. ...the 'flashing' led is there....and he's reseated the cable ...

Is there anything else obvious to check??.....it was working yesterday...

He has a spare montor to check with, maybe someone has other suggestions.

    Thanks,

    T.

Has he the Molex connector and IDE/SATA cable connected properly? Really when swapping over a HHD with an OS already installed you will need to reformat it for it to work, but you can't even see the screen, strange. Can you her the machine POSTing?

Could be also worth checking RAM is seated properly (something similar happened me and it was RAM not seated properly) and that the HDD jumpers are in correct position.

I had a problem like this before. The pc would turn on but the monitor wouldnt display anything. it turned out to be a CMOS battery on its last legs.

Its worth replacing it to see if if works...its a c1003 or something battery...about €2...
