I'm going for my first ever linux install, and i've (semi) settled on Debian. I'm just wondering if there are any DVD images available for download that i can install off. The reason is i've been told debian takes about 6 cd's, and one DVD could fit that (hopefuly).

You can do that if you want, but I'd recommend installing the base system only from CD, using the Debian sarge installer, and then installing just the applications you need over the internet. Even if you do burn the DVD for your install, you will have to go to the net sooner or later anyway, to update your system, so I always do it from the start.
