Again although we tried to have as much exact info as possible all of the info below may not be entirely accurate.

    PHANTOM FM PRESENTATION

Phantom fm’s consortium for the presentation consisted of
    Simon mark – Station manager
Peter Vamos – working in the industry 20 years and part of wireless media
brighid towmen – sales for 98fm in Prague for 20 years
Gerry roe – CEO of phantom fm
and Paul mcguiness – of principal management and TV3
    The Presentation

PHANTOM FM creates intelligent fun. It is a service that has always provided that.
Last year PHANTOM FM were granted 2 temporary broadcasting licenses by the BCI meaning they had 30 weeks of broadcasting last year. To which ZED FM have had none
PHANTOM FM is a great outlet for artists and sponsors alike, and they know it, PHANTOM has received sponsorship from the likes of irish broadband, the oxegen festival and music makers and many more while operating,

When phantom was off the air is broadcasters were head hunted by bigger radio station and now are on some of the biggest stations in the country.
PHANTOM FM supported bands like the frames, snow patrol and Damien rice when nobody else would play them, all of which have gone on to enjoy success.

PHANTOM FM has a vested interest in irish music, its members and presenters enjoy and love the music, and whats more DUBLIN WANTS PHANTOM

PHANTOM FM will be all about content, and will give people what they want to hear, PHANTOM will start a rock radio revolution., the emphasis will be placed on new irish and phantom will use the system which it has developed to continue to find the best irish acts and get them hear. Something it has always done.

PHANTOM FM is also commited to finding the best new music, but not just from Ireland, PHANTOM hope to introduce the irish listeners to amazing bands all around the world.

PHANTOM has programming that works, from pure morning to ICON live sets, PHANTOM will be putting on gigs and supporting quality acts like chuzzle and ham sandwich. And specialising in dark wave and gothic music, something no other station seems to do.

PHANTOM will provide relevant news that people want to hear, the updates will be regular and keep people interested, with news on getting a job, sport, science and music, and we will be compelling participation from our listeners through all the media we have used before, like email, message boards, sms messaging and the good old phone.

PHANTOM will put on live gigs like the ICON show which give bands not only a chance to play live to a crowd, but also to get their live performance aired on radio and be interviewed by phantom, interviewing unsigned bands is something that rarely happens, but phantom do it. In all PHANTOM FM will give Dublin a radio station to be proud of.

If given the license PHANTOM FM’s age brack to be playing to will be 15 – 34 as the priority.

PHANTOM FM did the research and alternative rock came second in the most poular music only to pop. Yet alternative rock is not covered by any radio station with the exceptions of maybe tom dunne, and(*my own comment* thus may explain the poularity of his show, he plays the right music people want to hear in a popular area). In a survey PHANTOM did 23 % said they would be likely to listen to alternative rock, PHANTOM would appeal to the sophisticated media listener.

15000 tickets were sold to the gig by the killers, 17,000 people bought tickets to the frames in marley park, just more than dido, yet these artists are barely on the radio.

PHANTOM FM is established, it’s a brand name people know, PHANTOM has a strong head start on its rivals and already has a very strong internet community. PHANTOM is best placed to realistically take the alt rock licence and make a success of it.

PHANTOM FM talked to all the ad companies, they said 15 – 34 age group were harder to reach, promoters are looking for a way to fill 18+ gigs at affordable rates, PHANTOM represents the better and affordable way to do such things,

BMS IRS and Viacom are all willing in principle to work with PHANTOM FM should we receive the license. There is a 61% awareness of the PHANTOM brand. This is to be supported by strategy and funding, if PHANTOM has 60% recognition without major advertising or input of money, imagine when PHANTOM put its weight behind getting itself known. PHANTOM relates to you and your lifestyle.

PHANTOM provides suttle quirky and interesting fun, and uses all the traditional media up to the latest media, i.e. sms & email. And best of all, PHANTOMS strongest advertising tool could be word of mouth.
PHANTOM FM has an effective team, the manaement is based on the ISO 9000 scheme.
year one we will be putting in 900k, in year 2 – 1.2 million, in year 3 1.7 million,
peter mcpartin, of irish internation OMD “welcomes the chance to use phantom fm”
All campaigns covers all the BCI’s policies mixed with out own and will be promoting mature and safe use of alcohol.,
PHANTOM will be essential for music lovers all over Dublin.
So why give us the license, well phantom care and know about rock music, something that cant be found on air. And moreover,
    THE AUDIENCE ALREADY TRUST PHANTOM!

Thus ended the PHANTOM FM presentation and the questioning from the BCI ensued.
again this may not have all questions asked and information may not be word for word.

    Ownership, - 13 directors , why???

A: we are drawing on the strengths and experience to give phantom the best possible start, the will be a board meeting once a month to keep the running of the business smooth.

You seem to lack broadcasting experience on the board, Weakness?

A: we have the members of the wireless media providing some broadcasting experience, but our board is a business orientated board making PHANTOM commercially viable.

Shareholders agreement, are they commited to phantom, is there and exit mechanism?

A: everyone involved is commited to the long term, there will be an exit mechanism but it will be drawn up later, we would consider everyone here for the long term, to which we would describe 5 years as the long term.
Wireless media are 25% ownership, would it affect you if they pulled out at any stage?

A: No it wouldn’t, we have agreements and funding between the 2 and have commitments provided. And wireless media are consitently involved in promoting PHANTOM.

Salaries are low based on market standard, is the pay commitment based?

A: salary levels are low but a bonus scheme is built in, salaries will grow as time goes on.

Head of sales will be on 37,000 a year, well below the industry standard, can you attract the right people?

A: we are confident we can attract the right people and they can earn more in commission and bonuses.

Station manager and CEO joined , explain ?

A: multitasking is obviously going to be needed at the start for running day to day, eventually the CEO will be running business and sales and a Manager will be running day to day.

    What about programming?

A: PHANTOM hopes to have fun stuff , Ireland broadcasts, battle of the bands, live gigs and more, filling people in on environment news and cultural news, we will be getting content from kerrang.

Explain post maidin the soap box program.

We hope to have people interacting and talking about the news that’s what the idea is based on.

How do you feel you news will be better?

A: there will be industry based news there along with news that phantom will be making.

You talk of promotional station events and promoting them online, how do you expect to keep within the BCI regulations for broadcasting about station events.

ICON live shows will be tied in the advertising and internet community provides up a strong foothold and a massive database.

Your main expected listenership seems to listen to spin and and fm104 fm yet you say you expect today fm and 2fm to lose bigger , explain?

A: we will be chipping away at fm104’s and spin103’s listenership but we expect that true our research the people we think will listenen to us most are currently listening to today fm and 2fm.

And thus concluded the information I collated from the BCI public hearing.

This oral hearing gave us a great insight into what both parties would be offering the cultured people of Dublin, I have no doubt in my mind that Dublin needs an alt rock station. Zed FM’s application was good along with small things hitting home ( to me anyway) like operating for 4 hours a week in irish, I think phantoms oral presentation had more fun and interest about it and that probably stems from their genuine love for the music, and phantom didn’t once have to stoop to hitting below the belt comments like Dermot hanrahan and niall stokes of ZED FM’s presentation. I think phantoms application at this moment in time looks the strongest, they have brand recognition, people will instantly tune in to hear them back on the air, the had the 30 week of last year broadcasting under temporary licences, and enthusiastic and knowledgable people involved with the music they love. My Money’s on PHANTOM but then again you can never beat the bookie so its not a sure thing
