speed dating- anyone out there done it?

is it possible to actually get a gf/bf/relationship outa it?

i just wonder if 3 mins is enough time to get to know a person?

i once witnessed a grotesque version of it in college, ppl were lined up on canteen tables, girls one side, fellas the opposite side, all squished one beside each other(i d say about 100ppl in total). within a few secounds ppl were meeting the heads off each other and then chatting/meeting the person next to them when time was called for there next date.

i dunno if ppl are depserate or what, but i just couldnt do that, ie still have the last persons saliva dripping from my mouth when trying to keep a straight face with the next!

I did the Today FM dealy last year, and while it didnt 'work' directly, it certainly gave me a huge bit of confidence.

I felt, at the time, that 3 mins gives u F all time. But I noticed that 3 mins could be horroibly long with the wrong girl.

In the night - out of 20 grls, i ticked 8, and got 4 matches.

It was fun. if I were still single, I would defo do it again.

Its not to give you enough time to get to know a person, its to give you enough time to get an impression across. The other person is left to decide whether is was a good enough one to make them want to meet you again or not.

Cliche time - but first impressions do last.

In the case of spedd dating it certainly is the case. One girl i spoke with was so ignorant, i gave up after 30secs. I didnt even bother with her. 2mins+ is a bloody long time to ignore someone. And before anyone jumps down my neck for being an ass - one of her opening lines was - "Im better looking than any girl here, i could pull who ever I want when ever i want". I replied something like - "Im sure ya, you are great."

Tit.

After the gig was over, speaking with a few other guys, apparently the same line was used across the board. No one i soke to ticked her.

As I said above, its fun. If u take it too seriously like that one, u wont enjoy.

Whether it actually leads to a realtionship.......well thats a story for someone else.

i talked to a few women who went to it who were actually in a relationship in a time, how pointless is that exactly

started to wonder if they had a bit of a inferiority complex in some way having to do this and what would it actually gain

I've never been to one personally but seen a few advertised I remember in town a few months back were people were handing out leaflets, it did kinda give out a bit of a desperado feel but if it works then no complaints from me

each to there own I suppose and whatever works for people

But the 3 minutes is both too long and too short... if it's with someone who you've struck up a rapport with.. then it goes by too quick.. if it's with someone horrible, who has no personality, then it seems like hours...

i've done it a few times, went on a few dates, nothing realy came of them, but i dont see why you couldnt meet a bf, or gf at one.

you're not going to find out if you're realy into someone in 3 min, but thats plenty of time to fancy someone, and go out on a propper date.

I've never gone speed dating but it sounds fine to me, on a scale of classy down to scummy, it certainly ranks far above drunken scoring in a sweaty, noisy nightclub.
