I had it for a month now and I have no problems with it at all.

I've had it around a month, not a single problem.

Heres a list of all the changes: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/preinstall.mspx

Some people were bound to have problems from such a big update. Just create an image of your HDD and you have nothing to worry about :D

I upgraded, it didn't work, I uninstalled it, and the PC went back to the way is was before happily. I'll try it again in a few months.

You can order it on CD, too.

It's completely free, shipping is free too. Might take a while, though (up to 28 days)

    yeh wait

it gave me no end of trouble tbh with my networking and my old usb modem, rolled back to sp1 and been happy ever since ;)

I've installed it onto several machines without any problems. Ya hear of some problems like viper there with his usb modem and other small problems that give people headaches but for the most it hasnt given problems. As viper said if yer having a problem you can roll back to sp1

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Installed SP2 on my main rig a few weeks before it was released. Have installed it on about 10 other PC's since. Highly recommended. Not a single problem and good for n00bs as it automatically switches on the (soft) firewall :)

but you can disable the firewall right? I already have a firewall!

OK guys! thanks for the feedback!

will take a risk and install it! :)

Yep, first thing after you install it you will be face with an option to disable Firewall, auto updates and anti virus monitor. Once you disable them you will never hear about them again.

I have it no problems, although from what i can see theres no real need for it, im not using the firewall or automatic updates.

It'd be a bit stupid to "take a risk" and install it without checking if there are any issues with stuff you rely on.
It would only take you a few minutes to check.

The last thing you want is to install it and then find it doesn't work with an expensive piece of kit.

I think sp2 is fine, i've had no problems with a fresh install not an upgrade.
I built a new machine for a mate of mine and put sp2 on right away then it turned out that piece of kit he uses for recording music, didn't work with sp2.
So now he's dual booting sp1 and sp2.

Killian, too late! already upgraded lol

    Works nice!

Optikus, it has some nice new features! like builtin pop up blocker for ie, and little add-ons to the os itself

I found up the length of time between power on and the winxp log in screen is longer since I installed service pack 2

apart from that ant the windows firewall conflicting with my own firewall which i managed to sort out, I have had no problems with it.

    didn't notice any slowdowns!

    Lucky you!

Anyone owning a Medion is advised to NOT download or install it. Too late for me, alas, as SP2 ate my pc, and I have had to do a total reinstall, so losing everything on HDD. Medion Suppoprt sympathised, which cheered me up no end!

did you not try to repair xp?
i know it's a bit late now, but perhaps it'll help someone else.
what you do is put in your original xp disc.
    boot to xp setup.
get to the install screen and choose repair instead of install.
it should reinstall xp while still leaving any programs and other files you have untouched.
i had to do it recently and it worked fine.

Sadly, I managed to screw up-and even had a thread about it about a month ago.But Medion warn that there are the dreaded 'issues', and that MS are 'aware' of them.
Thanks for trying though, Killian. And I'd like to thank Bogger 77 for all his help.
