    Hello all,

Just wondering if anyone else here has experience with the rip off artists claiming to be this that and the other.
There are no laws regarding setting up a club or being an instructor and there seems to be a hugh amount of complete idiots out there but they are making money off the young and uninformed, I was one of them many years ago but a recent look around has shown me that the problem is worse than ever.

You'll get those sort of instructors everywhere.

A guy started a Karate club in my home town when I was in my teens. There would have been over 20 in the class ranging from about 8 upwards.

The guy was useless (putting it mildly), he had no patience with the younger kids, spent most of his time talking to us and trying to get us to learn terms in Chinese.... which obviously none of us had much interest in. Overall there was no great structure to his classes, and he'd the attitude of a pig!

Needless to say the club fell apart about 2 months later.

I was talking about the kind of club that is still around after years.
Is there no law about being qualified for sport in general that can put these wasters out of business?
They are a danger to the people who train with them, not to mention they are essentially robbing people.
I still have injuries I received because the instructor didn't know what they where doing.
Since I didn't know any better I went along with it and even thought that it was good. I didn't realise the damage that was being inflicted

There should be some sort of law to stop cowboys operating clubs, you could easily seriously injure yourself learning martial arts off an unskilled teacher

This kind of situation is lessened by the participation of a martial arts club in competition. If a clubs practices are to be validated then competition is an excellent place to test this out. You cant have cowboys operating in a performance based environment.

Imagine a so called cowboy training a rugby or soccer team and using BS training practices- competition would show everyone the error of the training methods ways. If this kind of acid testing isnt present then these kind of idiots can flourish... Make everyone perform and suddenly with performance being the No.1 goal all training methods are called into practice and they can evolve... Other wise? Stagnation...
