Creda Storage Heaters - Usage.

    Hi,
I moved into a new apt and it uses Storage heaters. The only problem is that the never seem to last the whole day going cold around 5pm 6pm. Is this typical?
I never got an instruction manual when i moved in and neither did my neighbours.

There is two control knobs with input and output - I have set the output to off. and input to the highest = 7.
The thing is i don't know what time it switches on to heat/charge up
There are two controls in the ESB fuse box but i just can't figure out what they are - but i think they control the heating.
There is also a sensor out side my door which i look up on the internet and it is a heat sensor - so that could be related - I also have night time ESB meters in the meter box.

As soon a i can i will get some pictures - that might help someone figure out how to control it.

The make and model = CREDA TSR18CW (It could be tsr24cw will confirm this later when i get home.)

Have contacted CREDA applied Electronic - and they where a no reply.

    Thanks for you help.

    Try the ESB
"If you are unsure of the operation of the electric system in your Gold Shield Home contact ESB Customer Service at 1850 372 372. "

    From their site

Cant remember the exact hours the ESB use, but I think its about midnight to 7am for heating, then they discharge over the day - typically by the evening their only slightly warm. But your place should be too.

What you most likely have is a devi reg controller in your fuseboard, with an internal and external stat, these stats compare os and inside heat and heat accordingly.

If the heat is not lasting then you most likely have the vent on too much, if you close this in the morning you can open it more when you come in later on, the open vent when your not in is kind of like leaving the heating on, or a fire burning when your not at home.

An electrical wholesalers will get you an instruction book, if its a new house or apartment you are entitled to an operation and maintenance manual from the builder, the electrical section will detail the workings of this heater

Stoner - I don't open the vent at all it is shut all day. I have tried the builder to get a manual but they said they didn't have any. They did offer to send up an electrican to show my how it worked but i couldn't take the time off work at that time. They have since left the site.

Borzoi - Thanks for that - I can see the night meter in the meter box outside.
I just don't know when the heater is actually kicking in. I think i might be down to the control in the fuse box.

The images are one of the fuse board and the other of the heater
    The make is CREDA TSR18CW.

    .

The controller in the fuse box is a fine tuner for setting the on/off times. Seems fine.

The set up on you're heater is correct - well it's the same as mine, and mine works!

Is there a power switch beside the heater? Or possibly two for a combi?
Are the heaters warm in the morning? When you come home from work?

    Hi Borzoi
Yes it is a combi and it has two power switches.
As of 7.10am this morning it was still cold. But i don't think it turned on as it was cold (not even warm) at 5pm yesterday evening. I have opened the vent (output) slightly (just after the click) this morning not sure if this was stopping it from heating.

Ok, one of those switches controls the boost funtion - which is the fan and heat section at the bottom of the heater. This section usually has a orange light to indicate whether it's on or not. Normally you don't want this on.

The second switch controls whether the heater goes on to storage heating or not. In my place this has a light on the switch - this circuit is connected to the second (night) meter, and as such it will only light up as when you the night rate kicks in - midnight to 7am roughly. This should be on.

If it was your heater this morning would be roasting hot to touch (esp as you've the input to 7) the output doesn't affect the inpout in any way. In fact the output is really only a damper (mechanical vent controller, like on a car) control.

If you can't get any heat into the SH, make sure your local switches are right. Do you have more than one heater? I'd suggest setting them differently to test - overnight included. If you still can't get heat you may have a more serious problem :(

But if you need more help, just shout

    Thanks Everyone.
An adjustment to the DeviReg has solve my problem - Did turn it up slightly high over the weekend and the heater was still warm a 12am.

Hi macronot, I know this thread is really old but I am hoping you might still see this. I am having the exact same problem you were having back then with your storage heating. I have the same controls as you and wondering could you tell me how you fixed it please??

    Thank you
