I have a HDD with tons of info on it that I want to transfer to a new machine with WinXP. I was wondering if I install the old HDD with Win98 on it into the new WinXP machine would I be able to copy all the files over to the WinXP HDD?

Doing it as a favor for someone, and they don't have a cdburner on their old machine.

Not 100% sure if XP/2K can read compressed Win9x drivers. So as long as you did not compress it you should be OK. "drivespace" - 95% of users think it's great - the other 5% have lost all their data. NT/2K/XP compression is MUCH safer since each file is compressed indicidually.

If all drives and cables are "CS Cable Select" which most are these days you should just be able to plug it in and away you go (turn off power first ;) )

If it's an older Drive or if jumpered to Master or if cable does not have labels on it then disconnect the CD in the new machine and put the HDD there until you copy the stuff off it.
