I move my PC from one house to another a few times a week and ive noticed a problem. When i take it from my house to the other one, when i plug it in. the machine boots up but theres no video at all. the monito is getting nothing at all.
Ive tried changing video Cards etc and its allways pretty much the same. The only way i can get the video to start is by trying loads of stuff like.

Taking out the vid card and rebooting a few times without it then putting it back

Removing the Bios battery for a few mins

Other stuff has worked on a few occaisions too like unplugging it mid boot then plugging it back in, changing wall sockets etc

Then when i take it home it does the same thing and i need to do all this crap again to get it up and running

Anyone got any idea about this??

Is the AGP holder catch thingy loose?

Would suggest that its not seeing it as maybe you moved it one time too many.
Doubt its broken just not connecting right , would suggest for future moves get a barebones system, if built right can be a very powerful pc cheap. And made for moving about.

Are you by any remote chance using TWO DIFFERENT monitors ?
If so then try setting the resolution to 640x480 before you move it.

yeah they are two different monitors but , its not even showing the boot up screens. just a blinking light on the monitor saying its getting no signal. its completly weird. I am going to build a computer to leave in the other place though soon.

anyone got anymore info on this one?
its not the rez cause tis not even getting that far. I have to keep restarting the machine over and over again before it snaps out of it and starts to work

Perhaps all the plugging/unplugging has damaged the vga connector on your video card???

Is it location dependent - i.e does it always work at one and intermittently at the other? If so, perhaps the monitor cable and/or conenctor are damaged in the location you are having the problem.

What's the card? I know that some ati cards by certain manufacturers have this type of problem all the time, think its sapphire, but not too sure.

Also, can you hear the computer start? i.e. Hear the beep at the start? or the windows sound or even hear the hard drive seeking?

Are there any lose pins in the connector for your monitor, or the slot in your graphics card?

If you just leave it in place and disconnect all the wires from it, leave it a few minutes, then connect it up again does the problem happen ? Maybe something is going wrong when there's no power connected or maybe (dis)connecting the vga cable is knocking the card out of the slot a little

Its a 128mb Nvidia Digital. I have a Digital to analog Convertor Cable. it acts up when i bring it anywhere. it only goes to 2 places. my house and the recording studio. and after i bring it anywhere it acts up. Ill try another Convertor cable and see if that does the trick

yeah my sapphire 9700p has this problem occasionally - i think its to do with a loose power connection (the one that the molex connector plugs into - the fdd power plug) on my card. Have to wiggle it to get joy after i move it.
