I have put together the following from komplett...

    2.4 Celeron D, 533 FSB
    MSI PX8 Neo-V MOBO
    256MB PC2100 DDR
    80GB Seagate Barracuda
    MSI CD burner
    Comes in at 261 euro.

It's for a friend of mine who has a PII 400, i think, just wants a basic upgrade.

Theres a Q-Tech 6024MD case with 350W PSU on komplett for 44euro. would I get away with it for the above spec. PC is for normal everday web surfing, word processing, ripping CD to mp3 and transferring to mp3 player etc etc.

    Cheers,
    Dara.

Yeah Qtec are not so good by all accounts. I've never had one so have no personal experince but generally you should thy and get a decent PSU as you could run the risk of damaging all the rest of your components. I'd reccommend ANtec smart or true power.

Saying "Not so good" is making Qtec out to be alot better than they actually are :D Look at Antec or Thermaltake for good PSU's.

it would power that machine, but if it's for a friend i'd suggest getting a reliable psu as to then if he calls you, you know it probably won't be the psu's fault if he calls you saying the pc ain't working

That case comes with the 22a Q-tec, which would be fine for that rig. It's the GOLD ones that are underpowered.

I've built over 10 pcs with that case and not one had a problem. Rails were fine.

that's what happened when i had my qtec.

the general term "you get what you pay for" i think applies here.

couldnt power my 9800xt..so got a decent one
    ..stuck it in my server

    well it couldn't power my modest rig of p4 3ghz 1gig ram and a geforce 4 ti4200
it was a 400w one aswell.

For €70 a got a 520W...look at the rig im running.....

I would say pay €70 for a solid Fortron PSU and never look back. Its solid and future proof.

I think that Q-Tec are probably a bad option because the "more reliable brands" sell half the watts for the same price as a Q-Tec. so the fact that its gold and shiny makes f*ck all difference.

The cheap Q-tec case on Komplett is CRAP.

It is the worst case I've ever had the misfortune to build around.

The PSU is fine (P4, HDD, DVD+RW 9800 etc) but very Noisy.

The problem stems from the poor machining on the case (i sliced my hand open).
And WTF is with the PCI card retainer that you need a 90 degrees screwdriver to operate?

when i built my rig i decided to go cheap on the case and psu... giving me a little more money to toy about with the inside...

so i got a q-tec from komplett, heres a list of problems

    -- f all room!
-- practically falls apart when putting hardware into it
-- bad machining (i also sliced my hand(s) open)
-- psu: how dare they call it a psu... not earthed, could always hear electricity leaking, fluctuating power, mb crying!

and when you try and escape from it its not fun trying to remove your hardware from that heap of siht

    dont use q-tec!

i changed over to a nice antec sonata... cheap, reliable and great space inside

I also sliced my hand haha, brilliant.

The case is fine for a cheap pc, of course I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who gives a crap about space. But for a bog standard rig its fine.

Antec are very good but Iv found thermaltake to be very good and very quite. The 480w Tt butterfly goes for 80 yoyo's in peats so Im sure you can get it cheeper via the net.

QTec/Q-tec are not QTech, QTechnologies make very very good PSU's.

    Just something to know..

Ive had two Qtec PSUs in my time... basically dont believe the wattage rating and you'll be fine.. I have a reasonable system(2Xoptical, 3*HD, couple of fans) and the thing would refuse to boot with a 450W unless I yanked the opticals! Bought a Qtec "550"W PSU, and it boots fine now, no problems, had it for a year or so at this stage.

I running a P4, 2 optical, 3 HDD's, 9800Pro, 5 fans with a Antec 350W, soundly. Shows how badly Q-Tec rate their PSU's. I had a Q-Tec, I was afraid to connect it to a P4 incase i saw a expensive fireworks show. I got rid of it for an Antec. Im not afraid anymore :)
