An bhfuil eolas ag éinne faoí na hainmneacha roimh Chríost in Eireann. Ceapim go dtéann an aistriú cosúil le seo:

Does anybody know what the days of the week were in pre-Christian Ireland.
As far as I can work out the current days of the week translate as follows:

Dé Luain = Day of the Moon = Monday
Dé Máirt = Market Day = Tuesday
Dé Céadaoin = Day of First Fast = Wednesday
Déardaoin = The day between the two fasts = Thursday
Dé hAoine = the Fast Day = Friday
    Dé Satharain = Don't know = Saturday
Dé Domhnach = Don't know (Day of the Earth?)= Sunday

Tá ceangáil Chríostraí le trí lá ach nílim cinnte faoí na cinn eile. An bhfuil aon smaoineamh ag éinne?

At least 3 days are Christian based, not sure about the week-end.
    Any ideas anyone?

    Ceist mhaith!

Fuaireas an suíomh seo trí ghoogle: http://www.gymck.cz/geert/weekdays.php3?

Tá eolas ann ar laethannta na seachtaine sa Ghaeilge agus i dteangacha eile leis! Tá sé an-shuimiúil, nach bhfuil?

    Ón suíomh céanna:
    Dé Sathairn
This means Saturn's Day Saturn was the Roman god of agriculture. He also had a planet named after him. His three sons (Neptune, Jupiter and Pluto) also had planets named after him.

    agus:
    Dé Domhnaigh
The word "Domhnach" comes from the Latin word dominus which means the Lord, so Dé Domhnaigh means "the Lord's Day". The name "Sunday" comes from an Old English word which means the day of the sun.
