MATRIX - excellent, everything about it! i loved the graphics, the story line, the suttle hits of them creating eden and the notion of religion, class biggrin.gif

Half Baked - Purely cos i was very stoned when i saw it, and i have never laughed so loud in all of my days.

But seriously me favourite film to watch when i'm 'sober' has to be Pulp Fiction because of the original amazing script written by Tarrantino.

In a dark dark place, in a dark dark house, in a dark dark room, in a dark dark cupboard, in a dark dark shelf.

The only movies that have scored a 10 in my imdb voting history:
2001 A Space Odyssey, Apocalypse Now,
Das Boot, Dancer In The Dark, The Hill, Memento, Fight Club, and La Vita e Bella (Life Is Beautiful)

If I had to choose one it would be Life Is Beautiful, without a doubt one of the greatest films ever made.

btw: http://us.imdb.com/top_250_films is pretty good smile.gif

A vote I would have seconded without a second thought but for the existence of Chinatown- Roman Polanski's piece-de-resistance. It gets my vote for best film of all time- other favorites would include Citizen Kane, The Third Man, The ShawShank Redemption and 12 Angry Men.

As far as visual style goes- the Matrix was amazing, but the plot was weak and disjointed- it could have been so much more. Great eye candy- if I wanted a dark vision of the future though- I'd have to pick Blade Runner over the Matrix any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Gattaca, 12 Monkeys and A Clockwork Orange would also fall firmly into this category.

Fave war films are: Apocalypse Now, The Great Escape, The Guns of Navarone, Saving Private Ryan and Platoon.

Tough to pick a single movie- but it has to be Chinatown- even if you disagree with its choice as best film- it's more than worth watching.

American Pie - seen with 5 of my best friends. My stomach hurt from laughing so much.
Also a favourite: "Before Sunrise" (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0112471) I suppose I identified with this film because I was interrailing the summer before I saw it. I think this review says it best "'Before Sunrise' is not a film to be scrutinised, nor studied. The absolute beauty of it lies in its perfection as a simple love story - of two lives suddenly thrown together in the midst of reality, and the ensuing night of simple love that follows. Every individual at some time in life dreams of the connection that is portrayed in this film between Jesse and Celine, and few ever find it. 'Before Sunrise' simply and elegantly demonstrates how the most fundamental passions of human emotion can envelope two complete strangers. The beauty of this film is that the story is the most important element. The ending is both provocative and emotional - scenes of the night previously seen in darkness are now portrayed in lonely daylight as the sun rises and the story closes on these two characters.

I saw this film by accident one night late on television. I have never forgotten it. So well is it made that the audience never question if this could ever really happen in life, reality being so absolutely characterised in it.

'Before Sunrise' is simply the story of two strangers bound in Vienna's lonely night splendour - one night of love in all its glory, one superb piece of film making."

LEON will always be one of my favorites.
Without a doubt, a near perfect film.
Fantastic acting as always from Gary Oldman.

I very much like 12 monkeys. Like Bob said, very grim depiction of the future.
    Fantastic plot, and superb acting.

There are a whole load of other films I could mention, but that'll do for now...

The Thin Red Line - For being the first war movie I have seen that really got the horror of war across.
American Beauty - Absolutely brilliant story backed up by some outstanding performances especially Kevin Spacey.
The Big Blue - Just a beautifully shot movie.
Cool Hand Luke - The ultimate rebel movie.
    Fight Club - Class

And then in a moment of absolute clarity he realised that there was nothing, not because everything had ceased to exist but rather that it had never been there to begin with.
    Free Your Mind.
