Sounds like sloppy evalution on the part of the Psychs that will have tested him before allowing the procedure.

Correction: he was a man all the time.

When Lorena Bobbit famously chopped her husband's penis off, did he become a woman? Of course not.

yes but when his penis was chopped off it didnt magically become a vagina or he didnt develop a pair of knockers...
medically he was a woman...your personal opinion lets u decide what u think it is.

It didn't in this case either, as it was all artificially done. He may have had a constructed vagina and hormone induced tits, but he was still a he! As to him medically being a woman (note you used the word 'he' there yourself) his chromosomes weren't changed and would still have been XY.

I thought your sex was classified by your genitalia?

So if he had a vagina, he was a woman? But if he had it cut off, and he had no bits there at all, he would still be a man? *thinks to self*

Ok I haven't a clue. I saw it on Law and Order though, they were arguin about which prison to send a man who was becoming a woman to, and they sent him to the mens prison because they said he still had a penis and thus he was a man. It was on the TV, so it must be true!

So he missed out on the chance to have sex with a woman as a woman? That is what I would describe as a MAJOR oversight.

Interesting question. I don't think a person who has undergone such surgery would ever be able to experience a genuine female orgasm, no matter what trickery the surgeons got up to.

There is also the question of what was his gender? Did he turn from being a man (mentally) to a woman (mentally) and then decide to get an op to become a woman, but then changed back to a man (mentally) and then change back to a man (physically)?

Or did he remain a man (mentally) but thought his gender was a woman?

reminds me of the shinia twain song "man i feel like a woman"

I consider myself to be fairly open minded and can usually understand most mind frames but I must admit the mindest of a transexual utterly baffles me. I mean, is it just a case of not being able to accept the fact that you're gay? Or is it a psychological problem? I mean some peope think they're inanimate objects/aliens from another planet but as yet we've yet to start performing surgery on them to make them so. Or am I just less open-minded than everyone else?

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't discriminate against someone for having had this surgery performed, I just don't understand it...

I think its that apart from being gay, they are actually mentally the opposite sex which must be so frustrating having your gender not match your sex.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,367 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

If physically you're one sex, surely that's your gender as well?

Or has it been proven that (for example) a mae transexual's brains are chemically the same as a womans? (if there's even a chemical/biological difference between the male and female brains?)

[asking questions to learn, not to argue]

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,440 ✭✭✭✭Piste

I dont think they're biologically the same but psychologically I'd say yeah a person with a male sex and a femal gender wouldbe the same as someone with a female sex and gender.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,367 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

Well, what's the difference between someone believing that they're really the other sex and someone believing that they're really something else completely different then?

Is one acceptable and the other a form of mentall illness? Are both normal? Are both mental illnesses?

Good question. I suppose if there's a physical man who is attracted to other men and has a good fashion sense (I'm not stereotyping all gay men here just using this as an example) then he is merely homosexual.

If there is a man who is attracted to other men, has maternal Not Paternal instincts, prefers the company of women and, most importantly honestly feels that he is a woman then I'd have to agree that yes, he is a she.

Now if a person has the physical body of a man but in fact believes that he is a tiger (like that guy who got tatooed, had an op to get a tail and whiskers inserted) when he has the body of a human then no, he is not a tiger, he does have something wrong with his mind

Of course this is all based on the assumption that people have 'minds' and 'mentalities'. If we were to assume that we are purely physical then we could say that the reason why physical men believe that they are mentally women is that they're brains are functioning differently to other mens' and their brains have the chemical makeup of a woman's (which would be physical not mental) in which case it is a problem because their two physicalities (brain and body) are contradicting each other.
