I’ve something called PowerReg Scheduler v3 in my start-up menu. I googled it and it came up as Spyware, but when I run AdAware with the latest file installed it doesn’t recognise it.

How can I get rid of it??

    control panel, add/remove programs?
if that doesn't work, try spybot as an alternative to adaware.
If that doesn't work, and you're using WinXP try doing a restore to before it got installed.

The first search-result from google gives these step-by-step instructions for removing it.

Thanks for the suggestions….unsure if I’m being scolded for laziness or not….

I actually had googled it and found the suggested sites. However, the step-by-step instructions are these:

    Remove Files:
    desktopdir+\startup\powerreg scheduler v3.exe
    desktopdir+\startup\webshots.lnk
    profilepath+\start menu\programs\startup\powerreg scheduler.exe
    profilepath+\start menu\programs\startup\powerreg schedulerv2.exe
    programfilesdir+\powerreg
    startupfolder+\powerreg scheduler v3.exe
    startupfolder+\powerreg scheduler.exe
    systemroot+\desktop\startup\powerreg scheduler.exe
    systemroot+\start menu\programs\startup\image.lnk
    systemroot+\start menu\programs\startup\norton disk doctor.lnk
    systemroot+\start menu\programs\startup\powerreg scheduler v3.exe
    systemroot+\start menu\programs\startup\powerreg scheduler.exe

Now, I’m not fully understanding what those folder structures mean, but I had done a search for the files at the end of the address, and only came up with the file that is in the start menu.

Presuming the answer can’t be as simple as “Delete the file in the start menu”

Have run, Spy Bot, Golden Spy and restored from the last point time I installed something…. But still no joy.

If the .exe is not on your system, then removing the shortcut in your startup menu should stop it appearing.
The folder structues translate to, e.g.
    C:\Documents and Settings\fibonacci\Desktop\startup
    C:\Documents and Settings\fibonacci\Start Menu
    c:\program files\powerreg
    C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\desktop
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\start menu

    etc.
