Manchester United will be without captain Roy Keane and England defender Rio Ferdinand for the Champions League trip to Sparta Prague on Tuesday.
Keane is out after picking up a virus, while Ferdinand has stayed behind to attend his grandmother's funeral.

Ferguson is expected to give Wayne Rooney a start to build up the teenage striker's fitness.

"People who think that Rooney should be rested are in for a shock," Ferguson told the Manchester Evening News.

"I think Rooney needs games, to be honest. He's only 18 years of age and he's been out for 96 days."

Rooney has played four games since his return and Ferguson added: "You would always like to give a player six pre-season games and Wayne hasn't had that."

Rooney came on as substitute against Birmingham on Saturday and Ferguson is looking forward to linking him up with Scholes.

"Scholes will be in the frame for the Sparta match provided he is all right," confirmed Ferguson.

"He has trained all week but he got a wee niggle on it again on Thursday but I am sure he will be OK.

"He will always make a difference. Over the years he has missed some games because of suspension or maybe he has had the odd injury but you know when he comes back what his capabilities are.

"It is not a hernia. We did a lot of tests and gave him an injection so he's fine," added Ferguson. "It will be interesting to see how he links up with Rooney."

Shouldnt matter too much though hopefully Keane will be ok for the big clash at the weekend!
