So after weeks of waiting to find someone willing to come to this movie with me, I finally got around to seeing it last night. And it was worth the wait.

Richard, an ex-soldier returning to his home town with his mentally retarded brother to unleash vengeance on the local thugs who previously terrorised his brother. The story of exactly what they did to the brother is told through a series of super-8 flashbacks and are generously placed throughout the movie so as to not give too much of the story away too quickly.

Paddy Considine, who plays Richard, has shot to the top of my list of actors who demand respect. His intensity in this film was nothing short of incredible. More incredible still is the amounts of genuine pathos he is capable of generating. If the story alone wasn't enough to make you want to see this movie, I encourage you to go see it for one of the most amazing performances you'll see this year.

As a side-note, the audience at this film (UGC, 9.30pm on Sunday night) has encouraged me to adopt a new policy of whipping chocolate M&Ms at people who will just not shut up during a movie. So if you're chatting away and feel a few light smacks on the back of the head, look back and wave at your favourite boardster. And then shut the hell up.

It was very good wasn't it? Completely agreed on Considine's amazing performance - rarely do you see so much emotion bristling beneath the surface.. talk about intensity. "Are you the devil?" Hell yeah.

I unfortunately also had the displeasure of rowdy fools at my performance so I didn't get the full experience. At mine it was so bad that ushers were called in. Regardless, I think this may be one of the few movies this year worthy of a DVD purchase... something I think you can agree on Obey?

Definitely. From reading about the origins of the movie, it seems as though it was originally supposed to be a light-hearted comedy about a superhero who wears a gas-mask. I'd love to hear about how it developed into the final product.

I liked it alot in some ways. It is very very disturbing! I think it could have done without the slow motiony shots of the countryside with the slowwwww music playing over it.

I agree about his performance...it is truely a mighty thing to see.
What a freaky killer he makes too eh ?

    I completely agree.

Discovered it kinda by accident. Went to see This is England and a few days later was flicking through my sister's HUGE DVD collection and realised this too was a Shane Meadows movie.

Stuck it in the DVD player and..... well.........

I absolutely adore this movie.. without a doubt, it's Shane Meadow's best film (in my mind anyways).

    Fantastic movie.

I'll never forget seeing it in the cinemas. I went in expecting a slasher movie and got that. Paddy Considine is terrifying in it.

I remember having to convince my girlfriend to watch this when it came out on DVD. I got asked for ID when it was out in the cinema and me being 17 couldn't say anything to the cheeky b@stards!

Anyway my favourite Shane Meadows film and one of the best lead performances you will EVER see. I think it's right up there with DeNiro as Travis Bickle and I think they've been compared before. Toby Kebbel as the younger brother also deserves a mention, I think he's going to be a top actor. Great film 10/10!
