It appears that wellington boots are in fashion now - I saw a pair in the window of a "trendy" surfer shop in Cork yesterday! I suppose it's nice to see stuff that fits the Irish climate in shops although I would object to paying E40 for a pair of wellies no matter what design they have printed on them!

Has anyone here taken to wearing them?

Get some nice bright coloured ones and donate to charity at the same time, if you feel so inclined!

I'd hope they're putting insulation in them. Wellies are FREEZING!

Not necessarily. If you get a cheap pair in Dunnes or your local agri-coop store, then yes, you will freeze. If you get a decent pair of Hunters like these nice coloured ones which are lined with Neoprene and a pair of thick wooly socks, your feet will be warm as toast for your long walk on the beach or across the fields. Enjoy...

I have a sneaking suspicion of horror that I've already seen something like that, but I may have dreamed it up...

Oh, I saw someone wearing them yesterday. And the material was ruffled. Oh, the horror.

That said, normal wellingtons are wonderful. In my opinion anyway.

    Regardez!

This "Pucci Wellington Boot", which has been seen on such famous pins as Victoria Beckham, Sienna Miller and Coleen McLoughlin, which are currently retailing in Harrods of Knightsbridge for the princely sum of 60 pounds Sterling.

Beware though, there is a nine week waiting list.

Does anyone else think that these are the most hideous pieces of crap ever?

(edit - In fairness, I will admit that I did actually wear wellies in public this past Summer, but in my defence, it was at Oxegen and they are surprisingly comfortable. And also, they were REAL wellies - you know, green with a big yellow rubber sole and an authentic farmer look.)

I spotted two pairs of wellies being worn in town yesterday by Xmas shoppers on a day with just a few light showers of rain around. One purpley/pinkey pair (maybe the Pucci ones pictured above) and one white pair with little blue flowers.

Does two in one day count as the start of a trend?

I've got black wellies. Didn't buy them as a fashion statement though, I like going outdoors to areas where you lose normal footwear (such as slobland).

Yes. I've always worn wellies since I was a little kid. I think they are very sensible footwear that are a necessity in this country whether walking the dog, going through the fields or on the beach or simply walking in the rain in the town or city.
I've got a navy blue pair, black pair, green and I recently bought a coloured pair.
I think Irish guys and girls should drop the 'macho' mask and wear their wellies when needs be.
