Does anyone know the trick to put the squared sign on word. as in 2(2)=4?

    also how to write y-y1=m(x-x1)

You can put it on via Insert -> Symbol,

But it's easier to just superscript 2: highlight the 2 and press (CTRL)+(SHIFT)+(=)

As for the subscript for y1, x1, (CTRL)+(=)

These are the default shortcuts, you can also use the Format -> Font menu

Alt 251, 252, 253 for those in Dos (depending on codepage 457/850)

You should try MS Equation (free) for entering mathematical equations. Very handy and easy to use.

    But mind-numbingly slow to use.
If you're gonna use a lot of equations in documents learning to type in TeX might be a good idea.
