Question on SA.com tournament...

A couple of things since I'm bored in work!

    1) I've written up a short report on last Saturdays tournament in the Fitz, link in my sig. The turnout was a fair amount lower than previously. We'd like to know if this was just 'one of those things' or if there's any way we can improve/change the Fitz 2nd Saturday-of-the-month time/structure/other to get more punters in.

    2) One thing we did do at last saturdays tournament was when the final table was 3-way, we froze the blinds. It worked pretty well and stopped the all-in fest and constant 52-48 confrontations, post-flop play actually existed!
Would people like to see this done more in SA.com tournaments? It could mean that final tables last longer but play will be of a better quality.

    3) Finally, if you feel like writing a bit about poker that we'll put up on the site then contact me here or check out the link in my sig. It can be about anything poker related, from your own experiences in a particular tournament to your hatred for Hellmuth...
We've had a few expressions of interest from people who wouldn't mind contributing to get your authoring caps on.

well done on saturday luke. imo it was a great little tournament. lots of good play and i was fond of the blinds being frozen at that stage. made for better play.
im writing something at the moment about that crazy hand (not the A8 one) will send it to you when im done.

I like the idea of freezing the blinds at some point on the final table, it makes for better play all round.

Sorry I couldn't make it but for me it was definitely just bad timing and I should be at the next one

It depends on the tournament and the average stack to the bb, it worked last month but this month it was a crap shoot maybe im only saying that cos I was knocked out at the same time as a third of the players in the tournament who all were forced to go all in shortstacked immediately after the break

I think it definitely something we'll look into in the future. When the final table is formed in the next tournament we will look at the current blinds vs the average stack and see if it might work. It worked especially well last saturday because each of us final three had about even chips (15k to 28k ish) and the BB was 1k. It might not work if there's big differences in chips stacks.

You could include the A-8 hand too maybe, that was a doozy :) will reply to your pm soon though.

I enjoyed the tournie. Great idea to freeze the blinds. the main lesson I learned was that while multitabling is a good idea online, it's terrible in the real world. I was running between the suited aces final table and the saturday free-roll, and got somewhat confused in the process, donating 30 quid to the free-roll and going out rather stupidly on the bubble in the SA tournament which I really should have taken money from.

Question: Do those of us who placed on the final table of saturday's tournament get points towards the free entry satellite for the SA.com 500 freeze?

Yes. Half as many as those of the 50 game afaik. (which might require us to double the previous points given out at the last 50 game).
I wasnt there so I dont know if a deduction was announced for the big game or that with so few turning up if it was left alone. I'll talk to Hyzepher about it and communicate back. In short: It was our plan to do so but I dont know if that actually transpired.

I dont think you should freeze the blinds, but making sure they start of on the final table at a reasnable level is a good idea. I would of come this saturday but I was in cork.

Well Luke had a good point about the final table and reducing the blinds. It's unfair to those have ammassed a stack up to that point for the blinds to be reduced. I tend to agree. Freezing the blinds or preferably extending the time for each level seems the better solution.
