I dislike both of them, but if I HAD to choose, it'd be tea. But only apple tea... Coffee is too bitter for me, I just don't have a taste for it. Give me a good hot chocolate any day. =D

apple tea!!! what! yikes! ah no.. a good old brew of Barry's tea.. nothing like it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,851 ✭✭✭PurpleFistMixer

I tried it in Turkey. It's sort of like... apple juice, only hot. And more watery.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,182 ✭✭✭Tiriel

hmmm.. sounds interesting.. ;) guess I'll have to wait till I'm in Turkey tho!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,851 ✭✭✭PurpleFistMixer

You can probably get it here.. I just haven't seen it anywhere.

Grand, cuppa tea please, just a wee drop of milk and a couple of big sugars. And none of your oul' Barry's muck, a proper cup of Lyons please (or Bewleys if you want to be posh). What is it with Cork people's obsession with Barrys? :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,182 ✭✭✭Tiriel

ah you have to support the local brew!! only right!! Lyons is nice too though.. twould do if you were stuck ;)

I hate when people put more milk in their tea than actual tea. Why don't they just drink warm milk?

Have any of you guys ever tried tea what isn't in the bag?
I mean good, green or black loose tea?
would like to know if anybody here bothers with it, since most of you seem to prefer tea to coffee

I'll have some of the stranger teas when I'm in both the right café and mood. A bunch of leaves dumped in a pot, left to stew and poured through a strainer. Some very nice tasting teas available like that. Particularly Green Assam and some Japanese teas...

do you know of any cafe's which sell loose tea?
I don't really know of any

That depends on whether you live in Galway or not. If you do, then give Bananaphoblacht or Javas a go.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,239 ✭✭✭Gilgamesh

I'm in Dublin, that explains a lot then.
would you try other teas, or just the green tea?

Is there something wrong with the clock or are there lots of early birds here!

I like both. On the coffee front, prefer expresso (no sugar and freshly grounded), also like Colombrian and Java (no milk and no sugar - the way coffee should be drunk).

Tea wise - Earl Grey (Marks and Spencer - wife's choice) - again no milk and no sugar (where did adding milk to drinks come from?). Used to drink tea with milk while in college - cann't remember why I stopped. It's not that I don't like milk as I drink the stuff.

Also some asian tea (leaves) - no milk of course.

Currently drinking a crappy cup of Kenco from the office canteen.

Are there any Specialist Tea shops in Galway.

Or does maybe anybody know of any Tea shop, that sell REAL tea, not the crappy bag stuff, in Ireland at all?

I've dabbled in red teas, too. There's a very strong one called Pu-Erh (I think...) that comes wrapped up in a ball. It actually smells ever so slightly of fish for some reason, but Great Cthulhu, it tastes nice...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,239 ✭✭✭Gilgamesh

I think you might mean Pekue, very strong stuff.
have you tried white tea before, or maybe Oolong, they have very nice tastes, a bit pricey though

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 31,967 ✭✭✭✭Sarky

No, it was definately called Pu-erh. I'm sure there are plenty of red teas about.

I've tried white teas before, too, can't remember which ones. I'm generally content enough with a pot of Barry's...

I'm sure there's a shop that sells specialist tealeaves in Galway, but buggered if I can remember the name or location, sorry.
