New Target Shooting Centre to be built in Rathdrum

Some of us will have heard of this through the grapevine in the past few weeks, but it's now offical folks; Rathdrum Rifle and Pistol Club's brand new shooting center has gotten the go-ahead to be built!

The specs for the new range are impressive indeed; it will cover 25yd shooting as before, with 13 firing points; 25m smallbore pistol, (assuming all the legal wrinkles get smoothed out); 10m Air Rifle/Pistol with 7 firing points (and the capacity to use the 25yd/m range if a large competition is held so that ISSF finals can be run); and 26 firing points for shooting out to 100m outdoors. There will be a preparation area, a stats office, toilets, a car park, and a landscaped setting - all very civilised!

    Here's the layout:

And the interior plan (this is slightly different from the final plan, in that the final plan is this with a wheelchair-accessible toilet added):

Now note that only smallbore and airguns can be fired on the range because of planning permission requirements; but this is definitely the best news we've seen in recent months with regard to facilities. Well done to the Rathdrum Club for having pushed for this since 1999, and it's damn fine to see it come to fruition!

Full details on this development are available on the news page of the new RRPC website.

Nice to some club making progress, hope the trend continues as we will need a lot more Rathdrums if we get the nod on pistols.

For those of you interested in such things the Leinster Indoor open is scheduled for Sunday 7th November 2004 in Rathdrum. The usual six cards to be shot for overall aggregate, best four to count for class places. Doors open at 10am, Last entry strictly at 12:30pm. The competitor must be present for an entry to be made on his/her behalf. etc. etc.

For those who may be interested in the process of applying for pp for a range in Ireland (or Wicklow anyway) a copy of our application will be available for inspection at the range.

Looking forward to seeing you all (thats Prone Target Rifle shooters) on Sunday.
