Recommend a DVD recorder

I'm going to take the plunge and buy a DVD recorder, I'm considering Panasonic, Philips and Pioneer models.

Must have 2 scart sockets (RGB in and out) and optical or coax sound output, and I would prefer if it's a DVD-R/RW rather than DVD+R/RW.

Also, I've heard that recording from Sky Movies can be a problem for some units (Macrovision) so ideally I would like a unit that can record from Sky without problem. I must stress that I don't seek this feature for piracy purposes.

Finally, my budget is €300.00, but I will stretch to €350.00 or thereabout.

    So, any suggestions?

i would recommend the panasonic because it is the easiest to use (imo) and is very reliable. they are usually €450 but i got mine for €375 in a shop on georges street called "alliance Electric" they had the pioneer basic recorder aswell but that was €449 so it was a bit too much for myself! i also got a good deal on a load of disks in that shop too. the panasonic uses dvd-ram which is the best disk for yourself. it doesn't play on many other machines but is very useful for archiving gear for your personal use. pioneer is very good aswell but for the price i would recommend the panasonic.

That's one of the models I was looking at. Richer Sounds have it for €340.00, however, according to their website it appears to only have one scart socket, is that correct?

it has two. one is an input only and one is an input/output. the thing with buying a non- rep. of ireland model is that the tuner is not modified and will not work in ireland. in the uk (and the north) they use uhf to recieve channels. in ireland we use uhf and vhf and the majority of channels are on vhf so you're kinda screwed if you want to record tv stations with it.

It does allow recording to DVD-R but I dont know if it allows recordign to DVD-RW, it would suck if it didn't unless you don't mind DVD-RAM discs.

Sony's GX3 (GX300) allows recording to DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW and may be worth a look too.
