There are no HDMI optimised DVD discs that I know of, I don't think there is any such thing as HDMI is basically just a method of carrying the picture from DVD player to TV/plasma. However, there are 'Superbit' DVDs available which may be what you are looking for. Superbit DVDs use a higher bit transfer method (up to twice that of a normal DVD) to provide clearer and sharper DVD images. Most people who compare a superbit DVD to a regular DVD can see the difference straight away.

With a HDMI setup, you'll notice this difference even more. Search on Amazon for 'superbit' for a list of what's available.

Hdmi allows for longing cabling without inteference or distortion. DVI cable usually has problems if you go further than 5 metres. Picture wise there is no improvement.

Hdmi for now is only useful for that purpose. In the future, Hdmi will be used to carry Video and Audio to home receiver to divvy up the signals to their respective components. The higher bandwidth of Hdmi allows for transmission of high bit rate video (High Definition Video) and multichannel audio.
