A great idea... but doesn't seem to be working for me with both my Vodafone or O2 subscription.

    Anyone else had any luck?

Sounds a lot like o2sms, except that it's just for windows and doesn't support Meteor.

www.sf.net and www.freshmeat.net are worth a look for tons of useful free software.

Cool it just like having a link to the vodafone site in your sys tray!!! but it remembers your user/pw just like any other browser would.. How amazing.. Now stop the blatant advertising JamesB!

also the vodafone website is slower than a week in jail.

Blatant advertising my ass - i have no affiliation with that site.

That o2sms is *very* cool! o2sms+cron=cool!

Is it working for many of you (besides James)?

As i said above, i tried logging in and sending with both my Vodafone and O2 subscription.

I keep getting the same message under the 'Status' column: it flicks between 'Sending (1)', 'Sending (2)', 'Sending (3)', 'Sending (4)'

PS - For O2, is it your username and password for the online site you put in, as opposed to your mobile number and password? Tried both - but just as a matter of interest!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,415 ✭✭✭Optikus

That because Vodafone site is dead slow.. no program gonna change that.. has anyone run Spybot since installing it BTW?

:) - pity there are monthly limits, or a while(1) could work wonders:

I'd imagine it's the username you use to log into o2.ie - it won't be able to send anything without it.

Yeah, i assumed so - was just to make sure!

By the way Optikus, ran Spybot and AdAware - found nothing! Also have an very reliable antivirus on my machine that reported nothing! Seems cleans!

    Another killer app:

    http://www.avafind.com/

    It absolutely ROCKS!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

All the messages i sent earlier got through about 10 minutes ago... and i'm sending messages now that are getting through!

Must have been problems with O2 or something.

Is textbuddy stable / free of spyware James? Just have to ask...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 89 ✭✭NocturnalDonkey

I just put in the wrong vodafone password. (lower case where i should have put upper case) And it kept trying to log me in. If it trys 5 times unsuccessfully, you are locked out of the vodafone website for 24 hours... Damn!

Like i said - i've nothing to do with TextBuddy... or avafind or WinSCP.

THere's a contact form on the page - use that and ask them?

At the bottom right of the app window, it says "Registered (expires 31/12/2004)". I presume the author is building up a user base, and intends to charge for it next year. Good plan. I've installed it and sent some messages with it. Very handy app....

Are we still all talking about the same app, Text Buddy?

The license will expire a month from installing it. It refreshes the subscription information to check the license isn't expired as of yet.

The only way i see maybe to get around it is either:

    (a) setting back the time on our computers a couple of months to see if it's still recognises the license expires in a month..

    (b) set up a fake proxy in Preferences... it tries to check the license and says 'error checking license' but i think it has hassle sending messages that way.

Don't see the point in paying E4 a month for a program that just sends my own free messages from Vodafone / O2 online!

Their website doesn't mention proxy support anywhere. o2sms does support proxies but I notice that the site with the precompiled Windows versions isn't up at the moment.

But meteor give a crap limit on webtexts. 30 a month AFAIR. Compare that to Vodafone & O2 whith circa 200-300 per month. :( Though for normal texts they are cheap. Only 9c.

    Just a thought ...

This program could be sending the author your username and password also.

Don't know what use that would be, but it could easily do it.

Considering if you are a bill customer this username and password also gives access to your account, phone bills, etc ... I don't think I'll use it any time soon.

    As i said ... just a thought. ;)

I don't know anything about TextBuddy but o2sms definitely doesn't do that - source code is available on its homepage.

To access anything money related, e.g. payment plan, bills, etc., you need the self service password (which only appears on your vodafone bill).

All he could do with the login is send text messages using my webtext, or use my vodafone email account (which I don't use).

I think its safe enough.... :)

I've just downloaded it and it ain't working.
In the status bar at the bottom it says,

"Error Checking License" and "License: Unknown"

Looks like they've started charging already?

    I got v1.1.12

    It has proxy support aswell.

My text status is just "Waiting..." tho.

I'd consider paying for it because the vodafone site is sooo slow and also its a nice discreet app when in work. Couldn't be arsed signing up with paypal tho!

LAtest version works a treat, the older ones wouldn't work for me...
