    hi
i am a subscriber to Sky's family package - and recently seem to have lost access to RTE's (basic!) teletext service (by pressing the TV and then Text button - wasnt the best service but useful at times. Anyone suggest what might have happened - has it disappeared off from SKy Digital? also seem to have lost the ability to get the digital subtitles on all channels.....

    cheers

reboot your box by plugging it out of the wall for a few minutes and turn it back on. Teletext seems to disappear a lot on my digibox for some reason.

Anyone hear anything about the Digital teletext RTE are supposed to launch?

I haven't had RTE Text through Sky for months now. I though nobody had it?

I had to switch over to the aerial whenever I wanted Aertel. I'll try plugging out my Sky box.

The teletext data is contained in the field blanking period of the off air signal and is normally extracted from the video signal just after the I.F. stages in a normal TV. The TV signal you are getting from the Sky box is recovered from a compressed stream derived from a component or RGB signal without the required blanking signals hence no text.

How are you accessing the teletext pages eireboy. Is it on the TV remotes Text button or the Sky remote text button ?

RTE teletext is accessed from the Tv signal so its really nothing to do with the box, its most likely your remote is no longer programmed for the Tv so try reprogramming it, you can use the intercative button to get technical help on this

Yes I have a Grundig digibox and if I leave it plugged in for any length of time, RTE teletext disappears. Plugging the box out for 10 seconds and rebooting does the trick for a while at least. Incidentally, I use the Sky remote (TV then text buttons) to access RTE's teletext.

Its the same for me, get the text for a couple of days then it goes and I need to unplug the box to get it back, Grundig refused to accept the problem was with their digibox

Not really, the 'analogue' teletext information is not transmitted as part of the TV picture on digital services. It is sent separately as part of the data stream and the box is supposed to add it back to the picture that is sent to the TV. If this doesn't happen properly, then you lose 'analogue' teletext.

There are two reasons I can think of for this happening - firstly, encoding a picture which includes the teletext information digitally is likely to produce errors in the text, due to lossy compression - secondly, if the tv is sent a letterbox or centre cut-out picture, the teletext information would either be in the wrong place, or partly missing.

    .

Sounds reasonable, most often though I've seen this problem occuring when the remote lost its tv code

Mine's a Grundig box and has been happening me for the past 2 years.

Re-boot the box and it comes back....can last an hour or a week....one never knows.
