    Some of my favourites:

The Way You Make Me Feel - Michael Jackson (so wanted to be the skinny girl in the video)

Take on Me - A-Ha (brilliant song and video)

Any of Madonna's videos but especially Like A Prayer (could've been v early 90's but I loved this video)

Thriller by Michael Jackson even though the first time I saw it I was terrified.

"Girls On Film" - monkeyfudge the nipple/icecube scene was probably your fav part of the video ;) - remember when they used to play it on Satelite Jutebox the whole time.

"Sledgehammer (Peter Gabriel, 1985)" - swarfboy that video was excellent.

Another early nineties video I loved was Betty Boo Just Doing the Doo.

Also The Cure - Close to You (Robert Smith in the wardrobe).

Great choices too Sancoo - how could I have forgotten Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!

Madonna was just brilliant - I was hooked too. I remember making up dance routines to her songs. Had all her tapes. She was def my idol when I was a child. I even had the fingerless gloves :o .

The Queen video was "I Want To Break Free" and that video was great. Eircom did their own version of that video for their new phone a while back. Queen were an excellent band. "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" to name a few of their songs.

I'm a sucker for all the eighties songs/videos - watch VH1 the whole time.

Wham - like all girls I loved them too. Best song is "Last Christmas". Remember Pepsi and Shirly in their videos.

We would spend hours doing routines to Madonna songs too....I remember one cringeworthy effort to Into the Groove..... ;)

Other favourite's have to be the Michael Jackson videos. Billie Jean, Thriller (remember seeing that for the first time on Anything Goes or Action Station Saturday, we hid behind the couch), Beat It.

I loved the 80's it helped that one of my Aunts was in her early 20's so she 'taped' a heap of songs for me and I had a loan of her taperecorder.....

    Bliss

Aw remember the aul taping the songs with the double cassettes. I also remember taping the songs from the radio and trying not to get the dj talking at the end.

My Madonna song was Material Girl - "Some boys kiss me....." cringeworthty too. I taught my dance to my cousins - say I was eleven and they were around four or five and they still do my dance at family parties.

Even more cringeworthy for me was I was a Brosette :o - had the shoes with the smiley faces on them!

I remember trying to do the Bucks Fizz Dance after the Eurovision. There were a few sore heads when it got to the dipping bit...some of the girls weren't as strong as the rest of us and used to drop us...ow!

I was soooo innocent when I was young....sheltered is an understatement!

id have to say, Bros "When Will i be Famous" shame :o

One that does stick out in my mind is that "Come on Eileen" by Dexys Midnight Runners, those dungarees :p

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,811 ✭✭✭✭billy the squid

All the michael Jackson videos were great, Thriller and Billie Jean (where everything he touched lit up) were the best of them.

there was one thing better than taping songs off the radio though, and you were well made if you taped them on video off MTUSA, music box and Sky Trax.

of course betamax video recorders are next to impossible to find nowadays, :(

Irish band "A House" had great videos.

I think 80's bands were great at making videos. A Ha were superb. Deacon Blue "Real Gone Kid", Kate Bush "Cloud Busting".

Red Box "lean on me" & "For America"

There was another Irish band - Auto Da Fe who had a video called "Man of Mine" - It featured Phil Lynott. I saw it once.

Video was new & it seemed fun. REM - "Shiney Happy People"

You had bands with strings of hits and albums.

Nik Kershaw, Howard Jones, Cyndi Lauper, Thompson twins, Bananrama, etc.

Gosh, I feel old after reading this post - my favorite video was Cloudbusting by Kate Bush, I managed to get it and a few other 80's videos on an 80's compilation that I bough recently.

That "Star Trekin across the universe" video was very cool.

    Hi All

There was an 80's weekend on VH1 Classic and it was brill!

They were covering all the Number 2's (eek! Not a joke) of the 80's!

    Ghostbusters Ray Parker Jnr
Dancing on the Ceiling Lionel Richie
Kate Bush Running Up that Hill

Only found out recently that she used to be a ballet dancer....now explains all her videos...

A few cobwebs were swept away….it’s quite scary how many of the songs you know the words of.

    S

    (i wub queen)

I wub queen too! Remember the guy in the video who was the blonde - he looked remarkably well as a woman.

Freddie Mercury was a legend IMO. His anniversary must be coming up shortly. I remember I was in Transition Year (4th year) which was 1990 when he died and am almost certain it was the Autumn.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,133 ✭✭✭Quigs Snr

Queen were my favourite band as a kid too. Roger Taylor the drummer was the blond guy. It was around November 91 when he died, I remember it well, Greatest Hits 2 was out at about the same time. I used to have all the Albums, must root them out.

It was the Sunday 24th November 1991. Of all the things I've forgotten - things that I have no excuse to forget - this has always remained with me. I still miss Freddie :(

But putting Queen aside for a moment (because I'm terribly biased), A-Ah Take on Me, and Dire Straits - Money for Nothing (them fangled computer graphics) are my most prominant memory of 80s videos. I remember a lot of songs, but those are the videos that stick out in my mind.

Was anyone watching VHI's Worst dressed videos last night.

The winner (loser) was Take That and Do What YOu Like. Didn't think it was too bad seeing Robbie Williams in cycling shorts ;)

Cher and If I Could Turn Back Time was in there too - had forgotten all about that video - she had some nerve though in that outfit. The song itself was really good.

    Hi Climaxer

I missed that! I was watching Wade Robson's Shakedown marathon on MTV!

I remember the Take that video and you are sooooooo right! Robbie in shorts of any kind is not a bad thing! Yum yum!

In the Cher video, can't you just see the pools of drool on the deck! Brings new meaning to 'Swab the deck'!!

    ;)
