Acoustic bass guitars

    Hi,

I'm looking (for numerous reasons) to pick up an acoustic or semi-acoustic bass guitar. Years back, in rock steady music, I found a 5 string fretless acoustic bass. It was a thing of beauty. I have no idea what brand it was, but that would possibly be my ideal guitar :)

So do people here have experiences with acoustic basses? Recommended brands? Anywhere online that one can get such things, if need be?

I've played on an Aria 4 string acoustic bass. Oh so very very nice.

I drummed in a band where a the bass player had a Hohner acoustic bass with just a piezo . Nice sound but go within 20 metres of a monitor and WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! feedback everywhere, a lot more so than an acoustic guitar. He usually had to play gigs so he couldn't hear himself through the monitor, otherwise it'd just swamp everything with uncontrollable bad feedback. Lesson learned? If you must buy one, pay big money and get something very good, otherwise you'll just want to smash the bloody thing (or if you don't your fellow band members certainly will). There's a guy seeling a decent one on gigsmart he used to play with Papercrown, we did a gig with them once, he's a good lad and had decent gear. Might be worth a look.
