    Anyone's who flown Aer Lingus recently will notice that they've changed their guidelines for use of electronic equipment on board flights.

    My memory is a bit hazy, but anyone who remembers can fill in the gaps or correct me;

    a) Use of discman, minidisc, mp3 players, DVD players and CD-Roms in laptops is unrestricted. They must be switched off for takeoff and landing, but can be used inflight.

    b) Use of Mobile Phones, any WLAN equipment or any CD/DVD burning equipment is not allowed at any time. You can use a CD/DVD writer to read discs, you're just not allowed turn the burn mode on.

    Good work Aer Lingus!

    I always thought that was the case. All the internal flights in the states three years ago were like this afaik. And on my AirLingus flight home I think i used my disc-man. Could b wrong on that one though.

    what about GameBoys?

    I mean... what's so special about a GameBoy, that you can't use it?

    Previously, pretty much everything except for walkmans weren't allowed at all. MP3 players were a bit of a grey area.

    Afaik anyway. Not sure about the Gameboys - no reason why you wouldn't be allowed, particularly if you're allowed use a laptop.

    i fly aer lingus quite often and always see people being told to put their walkmans or discmans away. Mobile phones are a definite no no. You can use laptops once you are off the ground afaik.

    I was stopped from using my laptop en route from chicago last year.
    despite having used it on the dublin -> chicago leg

    then there was the member of the cabin crew on another aer lingus flight who thought my ipod was some type of transmitter.

    When I rang them about this a few months ago they were equally clueless. There was articles in the paper about them being one of the few (only?) in Europe to enforce these archiac laws.

    Is this official Seamus?

    Yep. It's on all their documentation (on board) and the flight crew specifically mention it.
