I have been looking at my toe nails lately and I find some are them are very thick and can be a little hard to chop. Its not a painful condition, its just that the said toe nails dont seem quite normal...thick and bulgy. In case you think I am worried about their aesthetic appeal this I am not

Old trick; cut nails soon after you take a shower/bath. Due to warm water, your nails will be softer, and therefore easier to cut.

Same for finger nails - cut them when they've been softened by water.

Your nails get harder as you grow older. You might be able to pick up a leaflet in you pharmacy / health clinic.

On another note, I'm having a hard time finding a pair of nail scissors that are sharp enough. Just spent £5 in superdrugs for a pair that you can see light between the blades if you hold it up. Anyone know what brand I should look for if looking for a razor sharp pair?

Scissors dude? Get a pair of nail clippers. I find the clippers are easier to use than scissors, when cutting my nails.

Your nails are ten times more porous than your skin meaning that immersing time in water will soften them a lot. As suggested above cut them after a shower/bath with a good quality clippers.

wilkinson sword (not quite sure how to spell, but the razor people )do really good quality nail clippers.
you'll prolly pick up a pair in boots or superdrug...

If you have vertical white lines in the nails it could be a fungal infection. That tends to uglify/harden toenails as well.

Toe nails are fun to chew on, especially when covered in chocolate. Mmm

Uh, and to the original poster... for Gods sake man don't use a scissors!
Get a small nail clippers that you can use to chop across the nail 1 step at a time... I much prefer clippers because you can line up the cut exactly before you make it... scissors just goes everywhere and chops in a line you never intended.

If the colour is changing as well as being hard id say its a fungal infection, ive one toe nail like that but i aint getting it sorted i checked up on this and apparently takes a year or more of very high dose anti biotics which can have severe side effects like your stomach tearing its self apart and the only real side effect of doing nothing apart from the horrible look is any cuts are more likly to get infected very easily. So as long as it aint painful just keep em short and dry and your grand but your best checking with your doc to make sure as you never know could be something else. God i hate that ad on telly its disgusting.
