My copy of the Focus remaster arrived today. What can I say? I opened it with the same anticipation as 11 years ago when it originally came out. The sound is so much clearer which finally allows us to hear just how good this band were. I have yet to hear any drummer (Peart, Mendez, Portnoy, Colaluca, Jarzombeck etc etc etc) who comes close to the performance of Sean Reinert on this album. Now it's possible to hear what he's doing with clarity and Sean Malone's incredible bass playing is much more prevalent now. In fact, you'd be hard pressed to find any band anywhere who are as talented and proficient on their respective instruments. The great thing about this album is that it's not guitar or drum ****, the attention to detail to each song is just remarkable and the whole thing just flows.

I would urge anyone who has an interest in Metal to pick up this cd as soon as you can. It is as revolutionary as Sabbath's debut and rivals the likes of Master Of Puppets in total quality. They just don't come any better than this. One of the finest Metal albums of all time, for sure.

Excellent, I'll have to buy that one. I look forward to hearing those hidden bass lines.

This is an absolute must buy, it's a fantastic album - pity they didn't make any more. Have it on LP at home but don't have a record player

As a drummer, you owe it to yourself to get the remaster. It just adds so much :D

on the subject of Cynic, has anyone heard the Portal demo? it's an absolutly amazing piece of work ( well what did you expect from cynic? ) it's a little hard to get your hands on as it was never released officially. t'was recorded in 94 and it's one of those albums that will never age

It's not hard at all ;)

    Check here

They put three Portal songs on the remaster. TBH I would rather have had the Roadrunner demo in CD quality but hey, I'm not complaining :D

Oh man, this is one of those rare albums where i wouldnt mind having the remastered version right next to the original.

That decision took all of about half a second ;) It's one of the albums where you really need a backup :D
