    ok I've a p4 3ghz system that I really wanna quieten a lot ...

its running pretty loud at the moment .. and I'm thinking ...

I'd like a more user friendly case clips being a major plus

I'd also like a quiet power supply

    and quiet heatsink / fan

anyone got any idea's .. I've been looking on komplett and seeing their range of things and some look nice but I'm undecided as I'd like to hear what some other people have dont ...

and remember ... money is no object until it comes to paying

    Thanks for any help

    James

There are loads of good cases you can get with padding. Thermaltake do a really good fanless PSU. Also what heatsink fan como are you using, there is alot of quiter ones you can get if your not overclocking

thats the power supply I was looking at ... what grabbed my attention was ... 0dB :P ...

its pricey .. but I think it could be worth it ... was looking at therma... cases as well ...

I've no intention of overclocking for the moment ... just of getting the system nice and stable ...

heatsink / fan was the one that came with the chip ... can possibley find out exactly what it is ... I'm finding its not that cool .. and damn loud ... or else I placed it incorrectly or something

If you want quiet consider an Antec Sonata. They're designed with silence in mind and comes with a low noise PSU. The PSU doesn't need to be 0db to be silent, just quieter than the ambient sound level.

The main source of noise in 90% of PC's is the fan on the heat sink. Get a replacement fan or upgrade to a heatsink designed specifically with silence in mind. Zallman do some good silent heatsinks.

After that see if your graphics card fan or northbridge fan is making too much noise.

Then look at your hard drives. Seagate hard drives are generally speaking the quietest available.

Yeah if you have a fan on the northbridge i would recommend getting a passive heatsink instead of the fan. This is an easy job to do aswell.

Your top areas for noise are the psu and hsf. Once you make these quiet you will notice other things like the northbridge, graphics card and case fans.

These are quiet on the low rpm setting and should be more than enough to keep your processor cool.

Passive psu's are the only way to go for silence but ones with 120mm fans are pretty quiet.

Once you shut both these areas up you will notice the others.

You can get passive coolers for your graphics card and northbridge and then a fan controller for your case fans to put them on a low rpm. Your system should be pretty quiet then.

well I think the powersupply and heatsink/fan are my main priorities ... at the moment ... hard drive I'm not too pushed about its a seagate barracuda (spelling) so .. its one of the quietest .. if I got it right when I read the specs on them...

I like the looks of the zalman ... may just opt for one of their power supplies if I can find a seller ... komplett don't seem to do them...

will have to check out the antec cases as well .. one of the guys I work with got one .. and it was nice just have to do a comparison between them and thermaltake ...
