Fireworks - legalities

    I understand that it is illegal to set off fireworks in this country without trained supervision - (something that seems to be largely ignored by law enforcement, but thats another issue).

    I also understand that it is illegal to sell fireworks in this country.

    My question is does anyone know if it is illegal to bring fireworks into the country??

    Or does anyone know what Act it was that banned them?

    (Just to clarify I in no way am advocating people breaking the law. Someone might for example be able to
    1. Buy fireworks in the UK (legally)
    2. Bring them to Ireland (legal?)
    3. Have a trained pro set them off on Halloween (legal)
    So I'm just wondering if Step 2 is allowed )

    still illegal
    just like buying a gun in america(your allowed to) and bringing it into ireland
    but who cares loads go up the north and buy a good few

    It is illegal to import them into the republic without a license.
    I hear they are increasing searches at the border to N. Ireland to.

    I believe it's the Explosives Act of 1875 that covers fireworks.

    I think it certainly needs updating... yes?

    They are working on some new legislation at the moment.. but it won't be in before Halloween.. which is rather stupid...
