Making Babies

Just wondered if any of you watched Making Babies an insight into the trauma and stress of couples undergoing IVF.

It was compelling viewing and it was hard not to feel touched by the couple's stories. It is a very private part of one's life and to share with a film crew was very brave!

Anyway just wondered what you all thought?

Yes I've watched it the last two weeks and was actually crying when the couple (who already have the daughter Holly) lost their twins at 19wks. I can only imagine how sad they must feel. Really really felt for them and the poor Dad in the garden where they had little shrines for them. The other couple were lucky though and their twins were fine. As for the woman who was a donor for her friend I think she is absolutely brilliant. I don't know if I'd be able to do the same but it did make me think that maybe in the future it would be nice to help someone experience the best thing in the world. I'm lucky to have two kids and this programme made me realise even more how blessed I am (if that is possible). I hope this programme might inspire some women to donate their eggs as it definiately made me think about it.

Great show all right. Having been through IVF (successfully), the program was fairly accurate in reflecting the ups & downs of the whole process. It really is a rollercoaster ride of emotions. That poor dad's description of holding his two deceased 19 week old perfectly formed twins in his hands was heartbreaking.

It is just an amazing process. They are really 'making babies' in that little back room in the clinics. My missus likened the opening half-door in the treatment room as they hand in the embryo for insertion to an old-fashioned chipper. We were thinking of going through another whole cycle just so she could say 'smoked cod & chips please' when they open the half-door next time. [If this makes no sense, you kinda had to be there]

Hi Dave - Sorry to hear of your dissapointments. We went through HARI and we would have only good things to say about them. They were excellent all the way through for us. We also took on their recommendations about lifestyle. I cut out alcohol after getting a sperm count result of 3 million (down from my usual 15-18 million) having given the sample on the Tuesday morning after a Saturday night session. On the big day, my count was up to 100 million!
