Indeed it did decend into a farce. Do you think it could happen though? I mean sky would have nothing to loose. And most would prob take up the £20 offer.

If Sky are close to a launch of Freesat, then it is possible, I'm actually inclined to believe it, Dave. But it would be a new departure for Sky to do this.

Probably not so soon, they have the mechanism to put messages on screen.

It would be in their interests for a person to pay them to have an active card*. An effective end to FTV as we know it.

    *Subtle rephrase there.

Not so sure Ofcom would agree, given the digital changeover plans...

IMHO I don't think they will switch off the current cards until a new software encryption update is implemented. That would make sense as it would mean eventually they would "catch" everyone. Cutting off the current cards now would be seen by media, customers and even the government as pure greed and would not be good for PR.The eventual problem I see though is that when FREESAT starts they will probably look for a phone line to be connected and that would basically snooker everyone outside the legal viewing areas.

Does anyone know if this is actually true and the itv cards will definitely be turned off in a weeks time?

The consensus on Digital Spy seems to be this was a solo run. Nothing to see here...

Worryingly, my wife tells me ITV disappeared at about 5pm today for a few mins and then a 'message' appeared. But she doesn't remember what it said (rolleyes!) something about a phoneline......

    Hopefully it's nothing.

Just reporting it as I got it - On further investigation the customer channel seems to have come on as well.
Hopefully it was the kids messing around.
