I rented Stir of Echoes last night, and on the dvd itself there was a warning saying it was a dvd for rental only, not for resale.
there weren't any extras on the dvd, I'm wondering if that's the difference between a rental and a purchase dvd?
    anyone know?

Region 1 doesn't have much in the way of extras either afair. Lets see, directors commentary, making of, music video. Think that's it.

You sure it wasn't a pirate of a video on DVD?

    I don't think so.
all there was on this dvd was the film itself, scene selection and language selection.

I've seen (and rented) rental-only DVD's in a perfectly reputable store - apparently it's quite normal these days - and no, unfortunately, they don't seem to come with half the extras - trying to encourage people to buy the "full" version for themselves I guess.

Then again, if I was able to hire the "full" version (Fight Club in this case), I'd have more of an idea of whether the extras actually made it any more worth buying...

it seems to be Fox thats doing it mainly.
I think its just so they can get people renting the movie while the director or whoever works on all the extras for the dvd. Remeber how long it was between the rental copy of fight club coming out and the special edition?
