    Hi folks,
I have decieded to finally get a burner, been meaning to for ages but just haven't actualy goten down to it due to a few things,
But I may be buying off komplett
Now below is a list of the burners they sell, can anyone recamend best for value?
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/kl.asp?bn=10034
I'd want it for backing up my mp3s and other stuff, but would like to copy the odd divx/porn and watch it in the dvd player, but I think that they accept dvd+ isn't it?
I was also looking at buying a spindle pack which is good value for moeny, I see komplett have this spindle of 50 going(Samsung Pleomax 4x DVD+R 4,7GB 50-pack Cake Box) for 21euro
    so anyone opnions people?

I see the plexter is on special.. but isn't that a bit expensive for a dvd burner 98e?
I can only see it has 8mb buffer and can burn dvd- at 8x

Steer away from the MSI DR8-A2 - its nice in that its a combo but its slow to spin up and fierce picky about discs. Firmware is easy to find for Regionfree though...

I was actualy thinking about that msi one,
what about the other msi one?

Haven't invested in a DVD writer myself yet either but if I was buying one now I'd deffo go for one which has dual layer abilty, so that it wouldn't become outdated too quickly when d/l becomes more common. I have found Liteon dvdroms and cdrw drives good so would possibly be going for one of their dvdrw drives as well when I do invest.

I see the nec one is much faster(16x) than the other ones and cheaper too..
    whats dual layer mean?
You can put in cds and burn on both sides of them?(excuse my ignoreance)

Na that it can burn Dual Layer DVDs - so it doubles the amount of data burned onto the DVD disc. You need special DVD-r/+r DL disks though wont work with any old DVD disc.

I found these guys had a good priced 3500, delivery is high, but you can justify it by ordering loads of disks without a delivery cost increase, as they will deliver upto something like 25kg without costing more :

I would recommend none of them go to www.jes.de and get pioneer A108 dual layer burner for 88.99euro and when you get it flash it with the latest firm ware and you will be flying. :D

no idea about it ! I got the DR8-A2 because I needed a combo and it was the main one that I found when I went looking but as I say its slow and I couldn't really recommend it...

So its looking at that pioneer one or the nec one,
I just want to know a bit more about this flasing..what are the necs like for flashing?
    really appreacate the help guys
also what spindle of dvd's should i get.. + is it?

Dual layer means you get about 8 gig on one disc and flashing firm ware will give you faster speed a specially if you are using 8 speed disc.

Just noticed you are asking about what disc you want -r disc. Let me no when you get a burner and I will point you in the right direction for them at about 45 cent for grade A 8 speed disc.

Just seen some prices there on komplett for the 8.5gig dual lawwyer, they're about a tenner each, fairly pricey but shuppose it would be nice to have a whole backup on a few disks...

many thanks, I think I am going to get the nec dual layer, or that pioneer how much is delivery from jes and what they like?
-r is the type of works in dvd players/ps2's correct?
this place you'll point me at 45cent sounds nice, they in ireland?

Thats right -r is the most popular, and yes place that I get disc is in Dublin. PS: I would still recommend Pioneer A108. ;)

I can't seem to find a delivery price off jes without signing up to them, and who do they use to deliver, how long they take?
I may still go for that pioner one, since you're talking me into it and you have one yourself sucessfully flashed..
and I have to say I love pioneer they do build well solid gear(I love their dj equipment)
what blank dvd's should i also order off jes(just want about 5 or so to test when i get it)
I'm just not looking forward to dragging this pc up off the floor and taking out the other dvd combo palyer and everythigns tight in the pc with wires all ove rthe palce :)
do you just use nero to burn dvds is it?

    Have a look on cdrinfo.com. It's a dedicated site for cd/dcd burners.

Lenny go to Blank Disc shop as someone already pointed out. There customer service is second to none (i.e. buy some DVD-R's - if you get a coaster they will pay for it to be sent back and send out a replacement). My recommendation would be one of the NEC, dual format (+/- R) with dual layer burning capability so it's futureproofed.

Also buy some discs with the writer but don't buy too much. Prices are plummeting and you may find prices are a lot cheaper when you come to reorder (I still have discs I bought 6 months ago - cost me £13 per 25 spindle - now cost £8).

I wouldn't consider burning speed a major advantage. To ensure maximum compatibility with other drives and standalone players, it's best to burn at low speed, maximum 4x.

I see, anyone know anywere in dub that sells that pioneer one for simular price?
costin about 120 to get it from jes..

I buy my discs from www.blankdiscshop.co.uk
I have found them to be excellent on price and speed.

I have an NEC DVD+R burner (1100A). The burner itself is fine, but I probably wont buy NEC again because of the crappy firmware support that they gave that drive. Flashing is handy enough though.

www.blankdiscshop.co.uk / www.svp.co.uk they are both the same and great.
i wish i had known about the coaster refund, I only have 2 so far anyway. NEC 3500 is what I got, it got great reviews on all sites. Dual discs are to expensive now but give it 6 months or a year and they will plummet.

f1refox, I'm after buying that pioneer one, bought it off overclockers it worked out 15euro cheaper,
now wheres this place that sells those cheap dvd-'s ?
and wheres the url to flash it, i wana do a bit of reading up on it too, you sucessfully falshed your 108?
    thanks for your help/recamendations lads

for blank discs, try www.mediawrite.ie, they're in Macroom and also customs appear to be catching a lot more in the last month so beware of importing packages above the import VAT limit folks. I find their datawrite yellows very good.
Also, NEC make great burners, have a 2510A myself, 3500 seems totally excellent value.

You only have to pay tax on items outside of the EU don't you?
