Just got my k700i from the guy in germany for 275, its a great phone but mine is buggy as hell, its o2 branded but not locked.

Basically the battery meter is all over the place, one of the 02 icons on the menu screen is gone missing, and the kite video demo that comes on the phone did play when i got it first now one day later it goes half way thro and says playback failed

anyone any idea if i can get it flashed anywhere, ive heard u cant flash o2 k700s?

Yeah, try MPRC (mobile phone repair centre) in sadyford ind. est (on luas), I know they are the authorized service agents for SE and will flash a phone for ya. I think they do it for free if its less than a year old.
It is next to impossible to flash SE phones your self because the firmware writing program has to authenticate online with SE.

Any way let us know how ya get on,

As far as I know MPRC are not doing the k700i yet , At least last week they said that they were not ..

If you have a DSS-25 desk stand you can flash it yourself on the Sonyericsson site :HERE

There is a mobile phone store on the Stephens Green end of Dawson street, they do Nokia phone so they may do SE phones also!

Some do and some don't apparently. Check out http://www.esato.com, it has been widely discussed there.

You should also try fonefix out in Finglas http://www.fonefix.ie, they also flash Sony Ericssons.

Sigma Telecom (fonefix.ie as PhoenixRising mentions) are the main service agents for Sony Ericsson (and have been since the Ericsson days)... that's who SE cust care will refer you to in Ireland... having said that most of the authorised repair centres will tool up for operator supplied handsets

never had a problem using the online service - always worked a treat on the P900 - lent a mate my DSS-25 last week to update his K700i and it worked fine for him too

can be issues for operator branded models though - as the update service will check for relevant operator authorised versions

Hi. I sorted out his broken screen problem where it kept flashing on and off and flashed it with unbranded firmware, so removed all the O2 stuff also.

Its also unlocked. I am down in Laois though. Sharkman will probably be your best bet to sort ya out seeing as you are closer to him, but let me know if I can help anyway.

If it would be handier , I could post the DSS-25 to you and you can update the software yourself ......Once you return it ;)

    @Cableguy

Have you tried Fonefix in Finglas? They are the main SE service agents. They should be able to flash it for you. Might save you travelling to Laois.

Also have a look at this thread on esato. Some people are having success upgrading their firmware and flashing their O2 phones to unbranded firmware using a T28 data cable and totalserver.

phonefix will keep it for a week and then say they need to send it to the uk which may take a further 2 weeks, they are worse than useless

I presume that's because they don't have the firmware. If they have the firmware they'll usually do it whlle you wait if call out there in person. I called out to them about a year ago to get a T610 firmware update and it took about half an hour.

really? - any phone's (various R520, T68, T610, P800) i've had in with them i could pick up the next day, or had returned back within two/three - if it's a hardware problem they may send it away alright

on the subject of the battery meter... i've read lots of people giving out about this, but never experienced any problems on my german o2 k700i whilst in germany for the last 3 months. i come home for a break and it's been acting up since its first irish charge! (european charger going through the shaver socket in the bathroom.) i presume/hope it'll be fine again when i head back to germany... any ideas?

hi, what's happening with the meter - changing level up/down over time, looks full for a long time then decreases rapidly... ?

when on the phone yesterday morning i got the 'attention battery low' tone and screen while the meter was still green (just over half full). i kept using the phone and it was fine, but it went down to dark red pretty quickly soon after the call ended (an hour or two). it did something else after i recharged it, but can't remember what exactly.
i fully recharged the phone again this morning, and after a handful of calls it's still only a pixel shy of being fully green

...just gone down 3 or 4 pixels now (can't say if it was in one go)

not sure where to ask this but seen as some of you guys have the SE K700i so I'll try here first Firstly I bought a K700i from a french website , and when i powered up it was in french.. I changed the language and have been workin on getting to know the phone (user manual was also in french , but I got the pdf version)

When I hit the online button on the side a number of french portals appear, do i need to flash the phone to update these or can they be edited somewhere. How can I tell what version of software i have on the phone ...

Also anyone got any good links for downloads, themes, tones etc.

    Cheers

Thanks for the reply cableguy ....

the mms settings are not setup and the wap settings seem to be for France, do you not need some extra kit to get sonyericsson to send them to your phone, also on the zedge site , can you only download over wap or can you save to p.c and then copy to phone (I have Infrared setup ...)

If you're on O2, go to www.o2.ie and fill in the form there and they will text the settings. They don't have the K700 listed, but just pick T630 from the list and it'll work fine. I dunno if Vodafone do the same service. SE's site also does this but it seems very flaky.

im on vodafone ... i'll try the SE website cheers

"SE's site also does this but it seems very flaky."

p.s SE website did not work with firefox for sending settings but worked with IE

i need to get my K700 flashed as well, stupid o2 menus in a sim free phone. also if anyone can help with the SE site, icant seem to get it to work, as soon as i click the wap/ mms option itontinuosly loads and never finishes. cant seem to get it set upmanually properly, so if someone wouldnt mind doing it from the se site for me it would be much appreciated.
