    Hi,

I live in an apartment where we cannot get NTL cable(due to the fact that Harcourt Street is not wired). I'm considering getting satellite instead just to watch the FTA channells like BBC1,2 etc. I have no desire in subscribing to SKY; and I cant anyway as I dont have an active phone line.

    I have therefore four questions:

1: Is there anyway to get ITV/Channel 4 without subscribing to Sky? If I bought a second hand Sky Digital Box plus a Sky Yellow Card on ebay, would that enable me to get ITV etc? Can I get BBC etc. with a SKY Digitial Box and no card?

2: If I am only going to be receiving the FTA channels, is there any point in buying a digital receiver that can accept cards? Am I correct in saying that no cards exist on the market for non-sky digital set-tops?

3: I don't want to attach the dish to the wall for various reasons. I have a balcony that faces S/EAST. Can I just place the dish on the ground against the wall? Would that work? I understand that there exist mobile satellite dishes for camping etc. but they don't seem to be sold except on American websites.

4: If I can see the sun from the balcony between 11am and noon, does that mean that I will definetely receive Astra 2D satellite from there?

I understand that, that is a lot of questions and if you could just answer just one of them, I would be very grateful.

Chances are yes but its impossible to say without either using a sextant or testing with a dish
