At first I would like to say "Hello All"... =)...

I am going to come to Ireland/Dublin. I will look for job as internet application programmer, but I have heared Dublin is very, very expensive city. Is it true?
What level of salary allows for typical life for one person? What level for three persons [me, my wife and child]?

thank you very much for advice =)

depends entirely on what standard of living you want.
programmers tend to get paid badly these days from what i've seen unless you are contracting and are very very good.
they also seem to be mostly unemployed at the moment as well, although im sure someone in the business can give you a better view than that.

Dublin is the most expensive city in the EU after Stolkholm i think. why do you want to move to Dublin?

as for how much money you want to for 3 people to live decently, probably at least 60k euro. if you dont want to do any socialising that is...

First of all, when you say you're an internet application programmer, what exactly does that mean? What programming/scripting languages do you use, what sort of applications do you develop, is it websites, servlets, etc? What sort of experience do you have in the IT industry? Give us this sort of info and we might be able to recommend companies to apply to.

Salary for a typical life for one person? It depends on what you consider a typical life! If you want just enough money to pay the rent and put food on the table, you can get by on €300 a week (€15,600 a year). The only thing is you'll have no car so you'll have to use public transport (we complain a lot about it here, but it's actually reasonable). Salary for a family of three? Don't know where WWM is getting the €60,000 figure from, but again, you could probably get by on €25,000-€30,000, albeit, just about. I wouldn't worry too much about the cost of living, the salary you're earning here would usually match it. The only worry you might have is your job, internet programmers will find it very difficult to get work here unless they've got lots of experience, maybe if you're willing/able to do software development or something, you'd be in with a better chance?

Good luck in the job hunt.

if people are going to move to a different country, then cost of living is going to be a huge factor.
there is no evidence to support the fact that the salaries paid in ireland have matched the substantial increase in the cost of living over the last 5 years.

    Not a chance in hell.

A single guy yes, but not a family of three. I earn in that wage range, I'm an umarrried guy, I pay extremely low rent (€250/month), I drive a motorbike, and I spend about €300 a month on going out at the weekend.

After all expenses, I have about €600 disposable income per month. Now that's handsome, a very nice amount, most people would agree.

However, throw a wife and kid into that, and suddenly I'm going to need a much bigger place to live. Taking my current rent, my disposable income, my going out amount, and get rid of the bike, I could scrape together €1200 per month to rent a middle-class, two bed apartment with one toilet and kitchen cum dining room, close enough to the city that I can bus, walk or cycle to work (seeing as I've sold the motorbike).

But that's only with my food, heat, light and entertainment costs factored in. Suddenly I can't afford to support two other people.

Costs per person decrease the more people you add to a family, but to live comfortably in this scenario (what's the point in moving country if you're only going to scrape by?), you need €10-€15k per adult, and €25-30k for the first child, €15-20k for each child afterwards.

That's pure guesswork, obviously I have no kids, but I can't see how you could live comfortably in Dublin on much less.
