ok, i'm gonna ask here because i have no idea what they're saying on the elitist encoding forums around the web. basically i have 2 xvid files with ac3 surround sound encoding and i want to burn them as a dvd using nero 6. when i play them in any media player bar nero vision, the picture is all shaky and juttery, when i play it in nero vision it works grand. i have all the xvid codecs installed, i dunno why they dont work with any of the other media players.
anyway, when i add my files to be burnt to a dvd in nero everything seems to be going well until i get to the 'preview your project' section, because when i do preview it, i have the probelms experienced on other media players, i.e. juttery and shaky frames. i dont wanna burn the dvd bacause i'm afriad it'll turn out like this, and i'd have wasted a good 2 hours encoding, aswell as a dvd.
i'm at my wits end here and this problem is taking over my life! i beg someone to help me please!

thanks for your help so far, i installed the latest codecs and it fixed the problem so i burnt an image dvd to test it. however as picture as the perfect is, there's no sound at all. (it's underworld live so you can imagine the implications of not having sound!) can nero re-encode ac3 surround to dolby 5.1 or stereo or any audio at all actually?

use TMPGEnc to encoder them first, use the ES(Video + Audio) option, that will put them in to 2 files, one Vid only the other Sound only, then use nero to encode them back to DVD in the sound should sync then! in neroVision Express 2 you have and option to select rather AC3 or Stereo!

i tried using TPMG but it didnt recognised the avi as an audio source, just a video source. hmmm this is driving me nuts!!!

wied, it worked for me! but there has been files that just doesnt wants to do it! you next option is use premier or ulead or something like that to extract the audio!

is it underworld you want to do? if so why dont you just rent it out and do a copy of the DVD, you get much better quality and have original sound quality

oops dunno where i get underworld from but how big are the xvid? I may have a look at it for you if you want

nah i mean underworld the band, they're about 700 megs each! i'm trying to burn them using nero now with the dolby ac3 setting instead of the stereo setting to see if it does anything. i'll let you know how the image turns out. thanks for your help so far!

To put those DivX's on DVD you should encode video only (if you do sound as well it tends to go out of sync) with TMPGenc (Avi to Mpeg2). Encode your sound with 2 programs. Use Virtual Dub to encode to Wav then convert to AC3 with Besweet (if your audio is 5.1 you can encode to AC3 5.1 - Use Virtual Dub to check audio by clicking file information). Head over to http://www.videohelp.com/ where you will find guides and tutorials for video conversion.

Just to add there is a program called DIKO which is free, and will convert any Avi (DivX etc) file to KDVD. A KDVD is a DVD but the methods used to encode the source provides possibly the best quality possible. Tutorial and downloads here --> http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/24/59/
