Get Cynic's album Focus and forget you ever heard of Opeth.

No, Deliverance is thier worst album by far... Horrible introduction to the band.

    Blackwater Park.

I'm sure you did... It's not really that bad an album at all, but it's still the poorest effert from Opeth I've heard.

Blackwater Park is by far the best. The Leper Affinity is such a brilliant intro. It just gives you an overall flavour of the guys

Picked a great album to start off with! :D As said before, follow it up with Blackwater Park, Still Life, and Damnation. :)

Opeth are the best progressive metal/death metal band around guys. Blackwater park is defenitely their best effort but damnation is a close second. i agree that my arms your hearse is also brilliant especially demon of the fall and The Amen Corner. if you really want to get a taste of what Opeth are all about, buy the DVD Lamentations. i went to that gig and it is by far the best live gig ive ever seen bar none. the documentary is also awesome. Also, check out porcupine tree for opeth style solos.

I reckon you should get all their albums. Great band and sound guys.
And yes Starbreaker, Porcupine Tree are amazing, really talented with great tunes.

wow, this thread is a bit mind-blowing, 7 years.. I hated metal all the way back then and wouldnt hear of Opeth for another few years.

So why are you making a thread on this subject then if you hated metal I couldn't care Less if you hated metal cause actually for 7 years I love metal and I still do

Notice he said "hated" as in past tense. And also then says he listened to Opeth years later... Implying he likes metal now.

    Thank you Dr. Poca :)

No 1 Metal Fan it's generally frowned upon to drag up threads that are over a year old, unless its a pretty specific topic, most of the time they will just be locked by a moderator. You are better off just starting a new thread yourself.

And for the record My Arms was my first and favourite Opeth album which I bought in 2007 ;)

No one was being a smart ass with you.Seeing as you are a newbie they were just explaining to you that zombie threads are generally frowned upon.

This is one of the friendliest forums I frequent about metal and people are quite helpful.

    Oh,and all hail Opeth \m/

I agree with you there. Opeth have gone downhill now, and the new album 'Heritage' is not that great either, and just too laid back now for me. I know bands move on, but I really miss those awesome riffs and vocals from outstanding albums like Morning Rise, Still Life and Blackwater Park'. I really thought that they went downhill quite a lot after 'Blackwater Park' though. I found the albums after pretty damn dissapointing, and I also found 'Ghost Reveries' to boring guitar riffs and the guitar sound as well. 'Watershed' did however have some brilliant songs like Burden and some other class ones as well.

No 1 Metal Fan: First off I'd be curious how your join date is given as July 2011 but you say you joined yesterday.

Secondly, leaving that aside, I would have thought the thing to do when approaching something new (not necessarily this or any other forum) is to get a feel for it first, read around, make sure you take on board (no pun intended) any instructions. One thing you really shouldn't do is mis-interpret what someone has written and get narky when you get corrected. Spend some time reading around here. There is a lot of useful information there. If you have specific questions regarding this forum or indeed any in the music category feel free to ask me and I'll do my best to answer them.

Thirdly, for what it's worth I had to re-read riffmongous's post a couple of times before I understood what was meant. Obviously the Kilkenny accent affects writing too :p

Lastly I'm closing this thread now. For various reasons it's not good to post on old threads. If you or anyone else wants to discuss Opeth or one of their albums please do so in a new thread.
